Why should they sing Diamond Dogs form David Bowie...As far as I know the Stones never did a cover from a song that was released later then 1964

Rectification: 1964 1983

Well,
'Ain't to Proud to Beg' The Temptations, 'Drift Away,' Dobie Gray, (though a bootleg...) This list might get kinda long, if people want it to..!

Keith isn't a Bowie fan, though Jagger clearly admires him.

Bowie has at least made three Stones-sounding songs:

Watch That Man
Diamond Dogs
Rebel Rebel

The guitars are very Keith-like on those songs.

The following link lists a total of 74 songs covered by The Rolling Stones, including studio and live albums as well as DVD. It appears that a song from Dirty Work wins the title for most recently recorded original song that they covered on a studio album.

Cherry Oh Baby by Eric Donaldson, 1971

Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me) by The Temptations, 1971

Get Up, Stand Up by Bob Marley & The Wailers, 1973 (Rolling Stones, The Biggest Bang DVD, 2007)

Love Train by the O'Jays, 1973 (Rolling Stones, Four Flicks DVD, 2004)

Bob Wills Is Still The King by Waylon Jennings, 1975 (Rolling Stones, The Biggest Bang DVD, 2007)

Too Rude (Winsome) by Half Pint, 1983

Meanwhile, here is the oldest song they have covered:

Prodigal Son (That's No Way To Get Along) by Reverend Robert Wilkins, 1929

"I Don't Know Why" is another song released after 1964 that the Stones have covered. First released by Stevie Wonder in 1968.

Arguably "Watching The River Flow" qualifies as well (as a post-1964 cover I mean).

I might add Jean Genie to that list...maybe Panic in Detroit too...

What an odd question ?! ;-)

Still I had no idea that "Too Rude" was such a recent song when it came out on DW, wonder if the copyright date was shown, OTH with the illegible scrawling...

Bowie was also part of the song It's Only Rock And Roll:

Stones Guitarist Ron Wood said of this song: "That was recorded in my house in 1974. In Richmond. The original tape was made there in my studio with Willy Weeks on bass, Kenny Jones on drums, me on guitar, and David Bowie and Mick on vocals. And Keith said, 'I've taken the precaution of wiping all of your guitars.' And I said, 'Oh, mate. This is the guy I'm gonna have to spend some time with. I suppose I better get used to it.' I said, "But you forgot one thing, Keith. You forgot my 12 string." And he said, "No. I left that on." So that's still on there. It's still got a flavor of the original recording."

I can't imagine the Stones since 68 doing esoteric future songs (yes they did 200 LYFH but that's different).

Diamonds Dogs is too quirky for most people - anyone in fact.

From an article...Well, he is obviously drunk:

Rolling Stone slams the legendary persona changing singer

Keith Richards has revealed that he is not a fan of UNCUT's current cover star David Bowie.

The Stone, when asked what his favourite Bowie track is, said he is "not a huge fan" of the legendary and pioneering artist.

He chooses track Hunky Dory track "Changes" as the only one he can 'remember'.

Richards also goes on to say "It's all pose. It's all @#$%& posing. It's nothing to do with music. He knows it too. I can't think of anything else he's done that would make my hair stand up."

To see what 30 other stars think of Bowie, and what his greatest songs are, check out the latest collector's boxed issue of UNCUT, on sale now (April 24). Contributions come from Jimmy Page, Peter Buck, Robert Wyatt and Morrissey amongst others.

Bowie covered the Stones "Let's spend the night together" on the Alladin Sane album (1973) doesn't sound too much like the Stones IMO

Bowie's "Let's Spend The Night Together" is the best cover IMO.

Very original, very Bowiesh and still didn't ruin the classic Stones song.

Just great!

The only connection is that Diamond Dogs and It's Only Rock'n'Roll which both came out in 74 had covers painted by Guy Peellaert.

They've mentioned dogs though on several occasions. Walkin' The Dog and Bitch being two of the most famous.

- But why on earth did Bowie do those songs? The Stones must be quite envious.
