On Saturday, a guitar that was used by The Beatles, was auctioned in New York for more than 400,000 US dollars, auction house Julien’s announced.

This guitar was played in the Sixties by band members John Lennon and George Harrison. The VOX guitar was used by Lennon in the recording of the Hello, Goodbye – video, while George Harrison played on the instrument during the song “I am The Walrus” during their Magical Mystery Tour.

In 1967, the guitar was given as a present to a person, who belonged for a while to a group of people who were very close to The Beatles.

It was not disclosed who bought the guitar.

Actually, Comeon, that guitar you posted was George's and I don't think John played it. George did the painting on it.

Actually, Comeon, that guitar you posted was George's and I don't think John played it. George did the painting on it.
John played it from time to time maybe even on "And your bird can sing." It was still blue then. John hated changing strings and by some accounts George was very good at setting up guitars. There's some studio pictures of John with this painted strat. I'm surprised this Vox made such a price, I think it was a novelty guitar for them. There are quite a few fringe Beatle guitars like this that ended up as gifts. They received plenty of free guitars and George in particular gave them to their old friends in bands from Liverpool and Hamburg..
