Choir To Join The Stones On Stage - all shows
Posted by: bv ()

The Rolling Stones are keeping the tradition they tried out at the five shows in London, Brooklyn and Newark last year, having a Choir on stage for "You Can't Always Get What You Want". They use the local choir in each city they visit, and the choir is rehearsed by no others than former Stones keabords player Matt Clifford...

The Stones will be joined on stage for the iconic “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” by 26 members of the Cal State Long Beach (CSUL) Cole Conservatory Chamber Choir.

Jonathan Talberg, CSULB’s director of choral, vocal and opera studies, is preparing the choir and will conduct them on stage with the Stones.

Cool news.
Any word on this being done in other cities on the tour?

Yes, it will be. I overheard Matt Clifford the other day telling someone that his job on tour is to oversee rehearsals by the local choirs.

Worked well for them, and with no shortage of willing volunteer choirs keep it going!

CAG was permanent in for all five shows last year, so it is hardly a set list spoiler, just like JJF, BS etc. There will be other surprises. No worries. If you don't want to know about the set list then be very careful about reading IORR...

I was wondering if this would happen. Good to know. Now I'm off to try to enroll at Cal State Long Beach and work my way into the choir....

If that doesn't work out, you could try to enroll at Cawthra Park Secondary School as a high school student. It's in Mississauga, Ontario. West of Toronto.

If it was not cheesy the first time on let it bleed, it remains uncheesy now. I am in the uncheesy camp.

A lady I know at my work said her son plays drums in the USC marching band who were contacted by the Stone's management and asked to come up with their own rendition of "Satisfaction" for tomorrow's Staples Center show. Her son had to ask a professor if he could skip a class that would have conflicted with rehearsals for the piece. She has to get her own ticket to the show though...but she is not going to miss the opportunity to see her son open for the Rolling Stones! I will be there as well - May 3rd is my birthday - - it will be the ultimate birthday celebration!

Definitely one of the highlights of the o2 show I was lucky enough to be at last November. That brief pause after the choir - and Keith stepped into the spotlight for the guitar intro. I had goosebumps.

So the drumming monkeys are back too then? From the pit on the 25th we had no idea what was going on with all that drumming noise...we just thought they were going to launch into SFTD!

CLASS!

It was a great idea when they recorded this song and from what I have seen on videos it still works perfectly... not to mention how happy it makes the kids who get the opportunity to sing on stage with the Stones. It all adds up to being really cool.

Is that what you'd say to Mick if he asked you what you thought of the choir on YCAGWYW after a concert you attended? Doubt it. You'd be all like, "Yeh it was great Mick - I loved it". eye rolling smiley
