Is this well known?
This is according to my ROLLING STONES Trivial Pursuit Game.
So far I've found it to be very accurate...but I didn't know this tidbit.

I've heard it's about Annie Leibovitz, but that's preposterous, since Annie is a lesbian.

I love this song, especially the last verse, which I think is hilarious:

Annie Leibovitz wasn't a lesbian at that time. Besides that she writes in her book she was in love with Mick

But Annie is not attractive enough for Mick, never was. Carly, that's another story. I could believe THAT!

Bon't know about the subject - can't see neither Carly or Annie as pick-up-drivers - but nicely done video.

But most of all: what a wonderful song "Memory Motel" is. On of the greatest Stones ballads ever. So mature. Really, really well done in every sense of the word. The lyrics are incredibly natural rolling, making a nice story, and the whole song is so well balanced, including Keith's touching little solo part, the way to vary the chorus line, etc. All those little things that work beautifully, coherently together. Where the hell The Stones (Mick and Keith) lost that mid-70's sensibility ever since? Well, maybe Keith still has it with his solo ballads but Mick's ballads from the 80's on sounds so calculated, formulaic and cold, if you now what I mean.

the women written about in the songs from that era were a combination of different people,an amalgamation of different characters.forgive me for being rude but when you're getting laid that much...the songs are a snapshot of a blur.

not only is that a generalization that is way off base it's actually a slag...one's sexual preference or identity does not preclude, exclude or otherwise determine the sex they have. Human beings no matter what their sexual orientation are capable of having all kinds of emotional/sexual connections. For some its easier for others it's not. Lesbians can walk and chew gum at the same time believe it or not.

This makes no sense at all. The song was about a love affair. It is extremely unlikely a lesbian would have a love affair with a man, even with Mick Jagger.

Admitted?? It's never been in question that he sang on it....just who it's about.

Most think it's Warren Beatty. For some reason some think it's MIck...but I doubt
if it was..Carly would have him be part of the song. Unless she's more clever than I suspect.

Re: Memory Motel. What a wonderful song, always been a favorite of mine. I've never been much of a lyrics guy, but I love the lyrics in this one. The air of melancholic longing always makes me think about girlfiends I used to have...

Carly revealed that the song was about David Geffen not long ago.

I would think that it would be about Annie Lebovitz as the name Hannah-H(ann)ah looks like Mick may've put her name incognito...

Yeah, I know it's common knowledge that it is Mick who is singing here.

All I know is Carly Simon was at the Four Seasons Hotel in Boston where the Stones were staying for the opener of ABB. Not sure there was any monkey business but no sign of Annie Leibovitz....
