Charlie Watts in a metal band?

LOL @ Ket !

colonial ,I am not sure I get you here .By "metal " do you mean "hard" ?

IMO,the Stones sounded hard /heavy on " JJF"

The album where they sounded even harder was GYYYO and in some bootlegs of the same period as well .

I am a Frenchie ,as Mick affectionately called them in the Old Grey Whistle Test in 1977 .

Metal has nothing to do with blues and has more influence from classical music, the Stones have never been remotely close to playing heavy metal...thank God.

I respectfully disagree with you on the point metal owing nothing to the blues. Sabbath (and Zeppelin of course) are VERY blues-based, and they begat metal.

To this day, Iommi's solos are still mainly based on the blues scale. Blackmore was the first guitarist to push metal past the blues scale, and of course Rhodes, Malmsteem, etc took it further in the classical direction...and there are numetal-heads today who consider the blues too simple and have no respect for it.

..but metal wouldn't exist if it weren't for the blues.

Have you seen your mother baby, standing in the shadow?

Not much metal in the Stones' music, but they did try a bit with Too Tough. I remember reading an interview where Mick said Ronnie listened to the 1982-stuff, and tried to create a quasi-metal solo.

One Hit is a bit metal-ish as well, soundwise.

That's more punk than metal.

I dont think the stones are remotely heavy

Try cranking up Stray Cat Blues from Beggars' Banquet with a good amp / speaker combination.

Stones have way too much roll to be labeled as hard rock or metal. Maybe distored guitars, etc, but the groove is completely different.

When they performed "Might As Well Get Juiced" for the only time live at Madison Square Garden. Great moment but ok it does not happen to often.
