I like it better than the other clip I just watched on YouTube-Four Letter Word. Yeah, the dancing girls are great-very Ikettes! Didn't know Liam had a new band. Is Noel going to release something?

It sounds like early Beatles and early Stones meet Primal Scream. Nothing wrong with that. Retro is the way forward!
As I said in a previous post, the Stones should be looking back to their early recordings and influences if they intend to release another all-new studio album A Bigger Bang showed they'd lost their way beyond any reasonable doubt IMHO.

Yes - and Liam ain't best pleased:

Noel Gallagher lifted new album from Oasis sessions, claims Liam
Former Oasis singer says songs on forthcoming project from brother Noel were conceived during work on Dig Out Your Soul

Sean Michaels
guardian.co.uk, Thursday 6 January 2011 10.25 GMT

Noel Gallagher "swiped" his new solo material from Oasis, Liam Gallagher has claimed. Although Noel has yet to formally announce his first post-Oasis outing, his brother is already certain he knows the songs. "I've heard his @#$%& new record 'cos I @#$%& sung on half of it," Liam said. "@#$%& nonsense."

According to Liam, the tracks on the as yet untitled Noel Gallagher album were conceived – and versions recorded – during the sessions for Oasis' last album. "When I was in America for Dig Out Your Soul, he swiped some off because he obviously knew he wanted to do a solo album," Liam told Uncut magazine. The 2008 record was mixed in Los Angeles.

Despite Liam's bluster, it's not clear how he knows anything about Noel's solo work. They allegedly "haven't spoken" since Noel left Oasis in August 2009, and certainly no tracklist has been released. "I haven't seen him," Liam said. "It's very hush-hush round his camp." While he still has lots to say about football, Noel has scarcely commented on music over the past year. He is a busy father, "doing nappies and all that malarkey". But according to Creation Records co-founder Alan McGee, who has heard Noel's demos, the tunes "are as good as anything [Oasis did] ... the reason that guy is quiet is he knows what he's got up his sleeve."

Liam is not convinced. "I'm not arsed with what he's doing," he said. "I'm sure it will all be very civilised and grown-up. His gigs will be like those that you can really stroke your chin at. With four rent-a-Scousers wearing shell suits."

Liam Gallagher's new project, Beady Eye, will release their debut album on 28 February.

I'll attend the shows, it'll be a great warm-up before (insha'Allah) the Stones next year. All I'm arsed to pay for to watch are Liam's new band, Noel G, The Who, Mavis Staples, Chuck Berry and The Stones.

(do I hear distant echoes of 2000 Light Years from Home in there?)

Wow, three good tracks posted here – Noel better have something good up his sleeve!

You’re right, Green Lady – definite shades of 200 Light Years From Home, there.

Don't forget the forth track, the (Bring The Light b-side) cover of World of Twist's Sons of the Stage:

And it is actually better then the original!

@Green Lady, what part of the song do you get those vibes?

Liam did actually mention in an interview they're very influenced by the Brain Jones era.

I don't have a technical musical reason to give you, but it's the intro and the first 40 seconds or so - I can "hear" the "sun turning round with soft explosion" bit of 2000 Light Years... But I can never hear it either, when people say that songs remind them of other songs - it either does or it doesn't. Maybe what I'm hearing is Oasis's well-known Beatles influences?

I didn't know that Sons of the Stage was a cover - had a listen to the original now and that's another rather trippy one:

I like what he's doing more than latter day Oasis.
Don't hear the "2000 Lightyears" reference at all though.
Wonder if he got the exact Lennon vocal slapback for ":The Roller".

Well, anyone here bought Different Gear, Still Speeding yet? It arrived this morning and I'm giving it a spin right now - and I must say, not bad at all. It's not classic Oasis, but it's warming on more than the last Oasis album did. There is a track called 'For Anyone' that sounds so unbelievably mid-60's - it could be Herman’s Hermits! grinning smiley

I really want to like this but I just can't. Noel was always the more talented brother and I am more excited to hear his solo effort when he release it.

I've been playing the album since Friday, great stuff. Simple, fun, rock & roll, like their haircuts and sleeve design it's more 1966 than 2011, and that's not bad at all. Strong melodies, loud guitars, good singing. Love it.

Re: OT: Beady Eye

Have listened to it a couple of times now and I like it.....in fact, more than like it. Very reminiscent of early Oasis, in other words, very 60's and Beatle-esque. Looking forward to seeing them at the Royal Albert Hall as part of this years Teenage Cancer Trust week.

Completely pointless in my opinion. So you take the Instant Karma drumbeat and sing 'Hold on....blah blah blah' in your best Lennon whine. I guess it's ok for people that don't know any better. But it's just another piece of shallow, derivative style-over-substance tripe that will be forgotten about before the year's out.

It's a fun listen, IMO: catchy melodies, tasteful playing… far better than the last Oasis record. If you sit back and allow yourself to let go with the music, I suspect that even the biggest sceptics will find something to smile about. I'm really looking forward to Noel's attempt to trump this one!

I'm listening to the record since last friday. Great one. Straight forward Rock'n'Roll record.
Do I miss the Noel songs? Yeah, kinda. But Oasis are no more. Different band, different songs. That's ok for me.
As not all of the songs where written by Liam, it proofs that also the other guys are good songwriters. I hope to catch them live this year. Guess this is where those guys could be really strong. Just as Oasis was.

it's so good I have to say it again. Must be hard to be those guys after Oasis since they have to deal with all this sceptisism - but somehow I think they don't care. I pity the fool who let's a rock album this great pass them by in this day and age.
