I don't think so, but he produced Rod Stewart (with P.P. Arnold) in 1967.

In the 70s Rod was mad at Mick for stealing Ronnie Wood. Does that answer your question.

Rod was right. Mick kind of stole him from his right habitat. Maybe he (Ron) would have been better of musically and socially staying with Rod. Maybe not financially though.

according to Ronnie's memoirs, that track's got Keith on guitar and Ronnie on bass - shapes of things to come, eh?

...and Ali McGraw got mad with you, for giving head to Steve McQueen...but what has that got to do with the price of tea in China?

This according to Zentgraf:
670816A 16th August: ROD STEWART/P.P. ARNOLD. London, IBC Studios.
Producer: MJ. Recording of an unreleased Immediate-single. Incl.
- Come Home Baby I (Barry Mann/Cynthia Weill)
- Come Home Baby II (Barry Mann/Cynthia Weill) –short remix edit
- Working In The Coalmine (Allen Toussaint) -unverified
Line-up: KR (gtr; maybe bass)/RW (bass?)/Rod Stewart (voc)/P.P. Arnold
(voc)/Nicky Hopkins (p)/Keith Emerson (keyb)/Micky Waller (dr)/
Georgie Fame Brass Section (horns)
Note: Date unsure, but maybe the first collaboration between MJ, KR & RW!
Come Home Baby wasn’t released before 1975, when it appeared
on an obscure US compilation album (see 750000A).

The thing is Ronnie was better utilised by Rod; his musicianship was more to the fore, whereas he was subsumed utterly, centring more on image, by the Stones. There were rare glimpses with the Stones, but not as great as with Jeff Beck Group and The Faces/Rod's first five solo albums. I would add that Own Album and Now Look are also great solo albums that do not disgrace in any way, shape, or form.

Who's better ? Mick, or Rod ? Miss You is far superior to Rod's disco efforts. Some Girls, Tattoo You, and Bridges to Babylon, and Bigger Bang, are far superior to Rod's efforts. Wandering Spirit is also a great solo album, which Rod cannot match. I would add that the songbook albums are utter dreck: Harry Nilsson did that stuff better in 1973. There was a brief resurgence with Unplugged & Seated, but other than that Rod has ruined his career, careening from one disaster to the next. Standards albums show an artist who is no longer trying. Whereas, Superheavy wasn't that great, it still shows Mick is not afraid to try new ideas, or new things. Rod recorded Everytime We Say Goodbye in 1974, and still thinks he can do such material in 2012.

I agree that Tattoo You is better than Tonight I'm Yours but Wandering Spirit better than Every Picture Tells a Story? No way!

I do wonder whether Mick is a bit envious that Rod left his band behind and became even more famous and successfull. Mick has never managed to come out of the Stones'shadow. Could Mick fill a stadium on his own?

Excuse me,

I did state "The Faces/Rod's first five solo albums". Every Picture is solo album number 3, though it does contain I Know I'm Losing You, which, to all intents and purposes, is a Faces track.

I agree that Every Picture is top drawer, but everything from Atlantic Crossing onwards is awful. Mick Jagger, both as a Stone and solo, has never had such a run of constant awfulness, without quality, since 1975, which Rod, regrettably, has.

You did say "Wandering Spirit is also a great solo album, which Rod cannot match" and I disagree. That's all, I'm not saying that you are wrong just that I have a different opinion.

Come Home Baby
According to the liner notes,
"the session was arranged and the song recorded and then there was an argument in the studio with Jagger who said that Rod could not hit the high notes,
and that his voice was not right for the song as he thought it should be done.
Jagger walked out in a temper and took the tapes with him and shortly afterwards had a row with Andrew Oldham and no one knows what happened to the tapes."

Another story has been said that
Jagger walked out and took the tapes with him because his guarantee was not paid.smiling smiley

Truth shrouded in mystery.
