O/T .... What is music?

I would like some honest opinions. What is it for? Is it strictly created for entertainment?maybe..What is its purpose? It can conjure up memories and emotions, some music can be powerful as a prayer and can be mind numbing as a droning sermon. Even newborn babies react to it,a child can dance before walking. It is mystifying. Is there a song for everyone on this planet, is it a ingredient used in conjunction with some other unknown to us yet force to aid in our evolution. Possibilities are endless what are some of your thoughts.

My nephew used to move around in the womb whenever the Stones were on, my sister banned them in the end, "too much of a good time going on down there" - she said.

According to many of our father's, it ain't Rock n Roll..."that isn't music, it's crap!" Fortunately for my father, within a few years he changed his mind.

"Music is a language in which we can express our struggle with what it is to be a human being" - Robert Fripp

Why would you want to take it apart? Music is for love, sex, fun, dancing, contemplation, anger, joy, and is the antidote to despair. Who knows why it makes us feel the way we do when we listen to it. Even deaf people can feel the vibrations of music. Music makes life better, I can't imagine a world without it.

its when you arrange sounds in order to respond to emotions you feel. its very open to interpretation.

it used to be only available to people who were present when music was played.

now its available pretty much anytime, and if you want to listen to any type of music, it's available.

ain't that a good thing?

The beauty of the world has two edges, one of laughter, one of anguish, cutting the heart asunder...and music will sews it together again...thats from Virginia Woolf and i really agree...
