Ah man, come on, that's enough - no? It seems like you have issues regarding smoking and the illnesses - either that, or you're been purposely antagonistic.

If truth be told, I’m no pro-smoker. I just get defensive, as we all do over such things!

Smoking cigarettes is overrated. Doesn't really do much for me. Not averse to puffing on a J every so often though.

What part about '"It was time to go smoke-free", managing partner Tom Thayer said, “when I can’t stand it any more, and don’t want to go to my own club, and my staff is constantly getting sick. I want a better environment for bands, my staff and customers.”'

It's not government ruled, crumbling_mice. Obviously you didn't read that part right there above.

Edith, when I played there (which was a lot) and I smoked I would occasionally smoke on stage but I tended to wait and go outside to smoke - the smoke in the room was too much.

Smoking sections in pubs or restaurants ?
As an ex-smoker -we are the worst winking smiley - I would say no.Unless there are very strong smokes extractors ,I think it doesn't work and bother the non smokers.

Smoking rooms ?
Well,I remember the last company I worked for had a "smoking room" .
The place was sooo fill with smoke & sickening that you even couldn't see my neighbor .smiling smiley
I always had to go outside in the cold.
Good think was that we didn't throw our butts on the ground ,we threw them in the outside ashtrees .

Gentleman's smoking lounge makes Parisian comeback
The gentleman's smoking lounge is making a comeback in Paris as nicotine addicts seek cosy refuge from smoking bans in mainstream bars.

By Henry Samuel, Paris 9:00PM GMT 22 Dec 2010
[www.telegraph.co.uk]

While most people are obliged to freeze on the pavement to keep up their cigarette habit, since the ban was introduced three years ago, a growing number of nightspots are offering exclusive and law-abiding shelter for smokers, complete with pianos, leather armchairs, and cigar lockers.

The Royal Monceau luxury hotel off the Champs-Elysées, has just completed "La Fumée Rouge" (The Red Smoke), an intentionally faded 12-seat cigar bar by top designer Philippe Starck, which opens in January.

The aim of this "radical act", according to Mr Stark is to recreate "the private clubs where men liked to gather in small, intimate groups, to read the papers and exchange views on the world."

Guests choose after-dinner liqueurs from a trolley at the entrance and relax with a Cuban cigar regulars can then stow in a private locker if need be.

The other side of the river Seine in the Latin Quarter, lies Castel, a private club founded in 1958 and graced by big names like Mick Jagger or Romy Schneider. The club has just opened a state-of-the-art designer smoking room whose star attraction is a grand piano once played by Serge Gainsbourg, the Gauloise-loving French crooner.

Smokers can sit in its elegant but intentionally not too comfortable leather chairs and gaze at black and white shots of other famous smokers adorning the den. "We don't want people spending hours in here with their drinks. And we don't play music in here – although people are free to sit at the piano," Xavier Brunet, the club's head of public relations, said.

French law still allows indoor smoking spaces provided they have state-of-the-art ventilation and that no staff operate inside.

Other Paris smoker hideaways include a room at Le Goumard, a 1930s restaurant with its Lalique-Majorelle decor and oyster bar on the ground floor. The first floor smoking room comes complete with club armchairs.

At Café Germain smokers can puff and play pool under the gaze of a giant yellow sculpture of a woman, while patrons of Le Pompon, the huge trendy electro club can retreat to its smoking basement room lined with Liberty-print wallpaper.

The trend has also caught on in Berlin, where the Times Bar at the Savoy Hotel on the Ku'damm avenue has a wood-panelled smokers' lounge with soft leather chairs. Smoking rooms can also be found in chic eateries like the Grill Royal and cocktail bars such as The Newton Bar.

The Newton opened in February a new room, the "Havana Smokers' Lounge".

"There are still lots of cigar lovers around and I think that if you want to combine that with a nice drink, they will seek out places where they can celebrate that," a spokesman said.

I am a Frenchie ,as Mick affectionately called them in the Old Grey Whistle Test in 1977 .
