I was watchiing the PPV earlier and it confirmed what I first thought at London (2nd night)
The band change from an ok, but a bit flat band, into a proper great band with Midnight Rambler. The whole edge Taylor brought to it, the element of 'this could fall apart at any minute' thing just took the RNR levels up five or six notches.

They were more than "proper great" from the start 
Do you seriously think the show went better for the remaining songs only because of Taylor's contribution on Midnight Rambler, a song that always sounds great?
Some of the best songs were even before Taylor came on, imo:
Get Off Of My Cloud
Before They Make Me Run
Wild Horses
all come to mind
