Marianne once said that "the voice of God is Aretha Franklin's". She needs that power now if the reports are true. Im reading different accounts but even the major online sources - Chicago Tribune, LA Times - are repeating it.

""She has a long life in front of her and will be back in concert, on stage, late spring or early summer," cousin Brenda Corbett told the Detroit Free-Press. "This girl is doing great and [the media] need to stop [speculating]."

show biz is weird - i've seen this up close - when a performer is sick - however ill- there is always a spin to make sure people know they will be back in business - no matter what - someone as monumental as aretha is connected to so many enterprises- her life is at stake obviously - but there are all the other things too - and the messages that get sent out are, usually, "it will be okay!"

a friend of mine - a comic - had a stroke years ago - had a decent -sized tour booked in a couple of months - i have never seen anything like the cover up that took place (he was not able to make the dates as it turned out)

God Bless Aretha -

After she cancelled for the last two years at New Orleans JazzFest, I was not feeling the love for Miss Aretha. But this terrible news has me feeling a lot more forgiveness. Get well, baby!

Years ago, I wanted to form a band called Urethra Franklin. Never did. Then I wanted to call that band The Incontinentals (we were all in our 40's).

All well wishes to Aretha and all hope that she doesn't have pancreatic cancer. I saw what it did to my mother and shrink in horror when I see those two words.

If she has pancreatic cancer - that's terrible, terrible news.
I just love the First Lady of Song - in every music style I can think of.
She's a Queen - and the world cannot afford to lose her. There's nobody worthy of taking over the throne.
I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope she'll be OK. Most of all - I hope it's NOT cancer of the pancreas, because that's ... The survival rate is the worst. But then again - with cancer and even with a poor prognosis - sometimes strange things happen. (I know what I'm talking about. I survived twice, including liver cancer.)
All the best to Aretha - and May the good lord shine a light on you!

My own doctor had pancreatic cancer and died 3 weeks after they discovered it.

All the best to Aretha!

S**t, not good. Had a cousin that died of it, the deterioration in him was so rapid it was truly shocking, from diagnosis to death I don't think it was even three months. Awful.

Didn't The Stones appear as support act in the early days to Aretha? Also maybe on same TV shows as well.I may well be wrong .

she's not a beautiful woman to me (the opposite of Shakira), but she has some really good songs. Also I hope to see her one day live in concert from the middle of the last row in a big venue.

This belongs right there alongside brianwalker's John Lennon posts as a tragic example of no tact and no taste.

You don't deserve to be in the same room with Aretha. She's the Queen of Soul. You don't have one.

Yeah, I was just thinking what a heartless, bizarre remark to make.

What the eff?
You're sick in the head - lacking a brain - or just plain stupid and with no empathy. That's the one thing I know that's even more incureable than cancer.
Not a very nice nick you've chosen, either.
