The Saint of Me and Out of Control? Are you kidding? These would be of zero interest to an HBO mass audience (following your logic of it being an HBO-filmed show).
I think you are vastly underestimating the mass audiences ability to recognize a good song when they hear it. I fell in love with these songs the first time I heard them and I was nowhere close to the Stones fanatic I am now when I first heard them. To be honest with you I can't stand HTW and BS, two of the Stones most popular songs of all time. No worry, the more exposure they receive the more widely accepted they will become.

looking back on those theater shows - they do look rather satisfying. only complaint would be the choice of covers leaned too heavily on material that didn't require (nor receive) much in the way of guitar playing...love train, nearness, how strong my love is, everybody needs....what those shows coulda/shoulda gotten was a heavy dose of some berries....
Good point. With the possible exception of "That's How Strong My Love Is" which showcased Mick's vocals--the others were indeed misplaced in such a eclectic set for a once strong GUITAR band.
I wonder what kind of set Keith or Ronnie would come up with if they were handed over setlist responsibilities? I doubt "Love Train" would be on that list...

Since the next tour is supposedly a "done deal" is it OK to assume that the Stones will be playing MSG sometime in January of 2012? And is it OK to take that assumption one step further and assume that HBO will be present with their camera crews to televise it? If so, then here is my proposed set list for this historic event.
#1. Street Fighting Man

At least five of these songs would not be worthwhile without Mick Taylor.

Hey stonescrow, I dig your list. The only change I would make would be to substitute either Carol or Little Queenie in place of Under the Radar.

very very unlikely - when was the last time the Stones played more than 3 new songs in a show? And when was to last time they did two (or more) new songs in a row?
They will be play there greatest hist stuff like the always do - they are not Bob Dylan…
Not sure of your definition of "new" song (brand new song from a new album or new old songs they rarely play?).
Regardless, it'd be good to be reminded of the Olympia show in 2003 where they played mostly obscure tracks (which is in a sense, new).
1. Start Me Up
2. Live With Me
3. Neighbours
4. Hand Of Fate
5. No Expectations
6. Worried About You
7. Heartbreaker
8. It's Only Rock'n Roll
9. Stray Cat Blues
10. Dance
11. Everybody Needs Somebody To love
12. That's How Strong My Love Is
13. Going To A Go Go
--- Introductions
14. The Nearness Of You (Keith)
15. Before They Make Me Run (Keith)
16. Love Train
17. Respectable
18. Rip This Joint
19. Honky Tonk Women
20. Tumbling Dice
21. Brown Sugar
22. Jumping Jack Flash (encore)

Half new songs & half b-sides ?
I wouldn't bother going.
That's why they keep playing warhorses for fans such as yourselves.
Here's what I'd like to see:
1/4 or at most, 1/3 of the setlist as warhorses sprinkled about throughout the show.
The rest of the setlist should be semi-obscure tunes from throughout their career that most people would recognize and say "Wow, I forgot about that song!" and be glad to hear it again.
I think warhorses are a necessary evil to sell stadiums & arenas, but there is so much more the Stones can fall back on and really keep a crowd's attention.

They may have played them when they were new, but there is zero chance that they will play them now. They have not aged well. BS and HTW (which you don't like) have.

I could certainly live with them rolling the dice with some of the lesser known Exile songs. They have so many great songs to choose from that in my mind are far more interesting than some of the recycles, however, HTW and BS are obviously crowd pleasers for the vast majority of concert goers, no denying that.

Unless they perform a medley of some sorts, don't expect more than 18 songs. I would even hedge on 15 to 18 songs. That would put them into Diva territory. Too bad for the core.

I am as tired as anyone with HTW and BS live, JJF even more so. Which is probably why I'll take a pass if the only way to see them again is in a giant stadium. The problem (for me) with 90s stuff like Out Of Control is that they sound so obviously Jaggerized attempts to be contemporary. Which means they sound dated in about five minutes. I would rather hear almost any obscure blues cover or Jagger/Richards pop original ("Sitting On A Fence"?, "Have You Seen Your Mother"?) from the 60s, or a chestnut like "I Got The Blues".

Yours is pretty solid too. I wanted Out of Control to be there. Too many options. Also thought Rambler instead Sweet Virginia...
