Maybe you were exposed to the knowledge, but blotted it from your memory banks?
Some other studio tracks without Charlie: YCAGWYW, IORR, Too Rude and Sleep Tonight -
seems like there was another one or two as well, but someone else can fill in.

Bump. Theory: maybe Jimmy Miller, the drummer on this track, changed the rhythm and thus gave Keith a new form for his old Who am I see I love you - riff.

Interesting theory.

Most likely Richards was playing guitar at Nellcote and caught inspiration and grabbed whoever was around to lay it down. In this case it would have been Jimmy Miller and Nicky Hopkins.

Although I haven’t tried playing them and comparing, it certainly sounds like Who Am I might have been the early workings of Happy. It surprised me to find out Who Am I is a Sticky Fingers outtake because it sounds older.

Flesh off the bone sounds like a sexual metaphor to me, like he prefers those escapades to booze etc

Last one beats me too. Unless he's saying he would rather be home than jet setting.

As a non-native English speaker I always thought it meant he accepted drugs without an obligation to return a favor.

It has probably been mentioned, but the "Happy" lyric is kind of reminiscent of "I Get a Kick out of You". And if you read that Cole Porter lyric, you can sort of see where Keith is headed with his, even though "Happy" is a piece of art on its own and open to individual interpretation.

i've always interpreted it to mean that he's so happy and in love that he's floating on air

and that the extent of this supernatural defiance of gravity is so great and of such a tremendous duration that he can literally fly between continents powered by nothing but the happiness and love he feels for whoever the subject of the song is without the aid of a lear jet

Yes, I always interpreted it as a love song to his woman, better than drugs and jetsets. The verses expressing his lifestyle, but he needs a love to keep him happy.
