Keith’s voice sounds young so I’m guessing the 1970s or 1981?

Jimmy Miller on drums?
No Charlie here?
Is that a thing I missed out during my 40 years Stones-fanship??
And if: On which other tracks you may be know (from 1962 to 2005) Charlie is replaced by someone else?

Thanks!

Maybe you were exposed to the knowledge, but blotted it from your memory banks?
Some other studio tracks without Charlie: YCAGWYW, IORR, Too Rude and Sleep Tonight -
seems like there was another one or two as well, but someone else can fill in.
Shine a Light?

I believe Jimmy Miller is on drums at the end of Tumbling Dice--the part after the breakdown.

I don’t believe I’ve heard this before. Pretty cool outtake. Wyman on bass?
Sounds like maybe Ron Wood on slide? Maybe from 1975 rehearsals?

1978 Woodstock rehearsals.

Bump. Theory: maybe Jimmy Miller, the drummer on this track, changed the rhythm and thus gave Keith a new form for his old Who am I see I love you - riff.

Interesting theory.

Most likely Richards was playing guitar at Nellcote and caught inspiration and grabbed whoever was around to lay it down. In this case it would have been Jimmy Miller and Nicky Hopkins.

Although I haven’t tried playing them and comparing, it certainly sounds like Who Am I might have been the early workings of Happy. It surprised me to find out Who Am I is a Sticky Fingers outtake because it sounds older.

Hello, not being english speaker I would like some help about the lyrics:

Always took candy from strangers
Didn't wanna get me no trade

Didn´t wanna get me no trade: Who didn´t? the strangers or Keith?

What does it mean "get trade"? Trade: what trade?

*******

Never got a flash out of cocktails
When I got some flesh off the bone
Never got a lift out of Lear jets
When I can fly way back home

Flash: does this word have purposefully ambiguous meaning related to drugs?
Get some flesh off the bone: I have no idea of the real or debatable meaning

By the way: Fresh off the bone

(1) The period after an erection in which a man's member/phallus is semi-turgid and not quite yet flaccid. Generally, the penis is accompanied by one or more slightly visible veins.

(2) Double entendre (bone=sex): The ten minute period after a ejaculation/intercourse/masturbation session.

Is this meaning related to the lyrics?

And cocktail refers to the alcoholic drink?

Never got a lift out of Lear jets
When I can fly way back home
[/i]

A total mistery to me about the meaning of this sentence.
Keith can fly way back home: he can get on a plane and travel to his home?
And travelling to home by plane is not compatible with the use of a Lear Jet?

Trade: job

Flesh off the bone sounds like a sexual metaphor to me, like he prefers those escapades to booze etc

Last one beats me too. Unless he's saying he would rather be home than jet setting.

What does it mean "get trade"? Trade: what trade? Meaning (to me) a regular job, where you're working/slaving away.

Flash: does this word have purposefully ambiguous meaning related to drugs? Perhaps?
Get some flesh off the bone: I have no idea of the real or debatable meaning I've always thought he's referring to the flesh of his lover and the happiness it brings him.

By the way: Fresh off the bone

Is this meaning related to the lyrics? Again, perhaps. Art and its meaning is in the eye/ear/brain of the beholder!smiling smiley

And cocktail refers to the alcoholic drink? That's what a cocktail is.

Never got a lift out of Lear jets

A total mistery to me about the meaning of this sentence. I've always interpreted this as, I don't need to fly all around the world on a private plane when I can get such joy on the home-front.

Drugs for free from strangers!
Don't wanna work!

As a non-native English speaker I always thought it meant he accepted drugs without an obligation to return a favor.

It has probably been mentioned, but the "Happy" lyric is kind of reminiscent of "I Get a Kick out of You". And if you read that Cole Porter lyric, you can sort of see where Keith is headed with his, even though "Happy" is a piece of art on its own and open to individual interpretation.

"I Get a Kick Out of You"

I get no kick from champagne
Mere alcohol doesn't thrill me at all
So tell me why should it be true
That I get a kick out of you?

Some get a kick from cocaine
I’m sure that if, I took even one sniff
That would bore me terrifically too
Yet I get a kick out of you

I get a kick every time I see you
Standing there before me
I get a kick though it’s clear to me
You obviously do not adore me

I get no kick in a plane
Flying too high with some guy in the sky
Is my idea of nothing to do
Yet I get a kick out of you

i've always interpreted it to mean that he's so happy and in love that he's floating on air

and that the extent of this supernatural defiance of gravity is so great and of such a tremendous duration that he can literally fly between continents powered by nothing but the happiness and love he feels for whoever the subject of the song is without the aid of a lear jet

apparently anita was something else huhwinking smiley

Yes, I always interpreted it as a love song to his woman, better than drugs and jetsets. The verses expressing his lifestyle, but he needs a love to keep him happy.
