I think the main reason why Chinese Democracy didn't sell was simply because it wasn't good. Axl's been a jerk since day one and it didn't effect sales - when the albums were, you know, good.

well also there was no music videos, it was just at bestbuy which does not have as many stores as people think, it was not in the bestbuy weekly sales add until weeks after it came out, there was very little in store promotion, there was no tour started in america to coincide with the album until 2011. how the fact its sold roughly 650k actually is good when you look at the lack of promotion for it and now bestbuy doesn't even stock it in their stores even though they own every unsold copy.
I had/have an agenda, and it is working, I am not just whining about one person, and I did not start thread after thread about it, as if it was relevent news to IORR.

CHINESE DEMOCRACY. release date 2008. sales in the united states approx. 620k. no tour to promote it for 3 years after it was released and no big press conference to announce its release
that is the soundscan numbers as close as can be figured meaning actual number of albums scanned at the registers of best buy. best buy purchased over 1 million copies of the album and the album was eventually certified platinum (1 million units) but it has not sold 1 million unites. A BIGGER BANG is also platinum but obviously well short of the 1 million sold, its just shipped 1 million units

you have to pay a membership fee to access the soundscan data. wikipedia lists the sales of both albums but they are a little old

The band Guns N' Roses was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame over the weekend despite Axl Rose's decision not to attend, and now the rocker has one more thing to say about the ceremony: He's sorry.
Via his Twitter account, Rose has offered a mea culpa to the city of Cleveland, Ohio,which hosts the event.
"I would like to apologize to Cleveland, Ohio, for not apologizing to them beforehand for not attending [the ceremony] in their city," he wrote, referring to his initial letter to the Hall.
The tweet provides a link to a lengthy letter in which Rose describes his surprise and gratitude at the positive feedback and support he's received since he announced he was declining the Hall of Fame's induction.
He adds that he's sorry for not offering Cleveland an apology earlier, as he does enjoy performing there, and "Cleveland does in fact Rock!"

Thanks keef... yeah I probably dont realy want to see the sales numbers, as it would probably not be great news for me and my rock and roll.... a genre seemingly on it deathbed. Even supposed rock and roll websites are talking more about disco and praising funk over rock and roll.... as the kids sell out shows to pay to see some DJ "spinning" dance music... and then there is the rap crap and boy bands... sigh... no... Classic rockers Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were thrilled to get back five guitars stolen less than a week before the start of an international tour.
"I am extremely grateful to the Culver City Police Department for a job well done and touched by the outpouring of good wishes and concern from our fans and friends," Petty said Tuesday on the band's Facebook page.
A 51-year-old private security guard was arrested Monday night in Los Angeles and booked for grand theft, according to Culver City Police Lt. Ron Iizuka.
The instruments were stolen late last week from a soundstage where the Heartbreakers were rehearsing for their tour, which is set to start Wednesday in Broomfield, Colorado.
A $7,500 reward was offered for the return of the guitars, which included a vintage 1967 Rickenbacker, a 1967 Epiphone and a 1965 Gibson.
"Sometimes people make mistakes, but we'd like these back," Petty said on his Twitter account Friday. "No questions asked."
According to police, one of the guitars was sold at a Hollywood pawn shop. Officers were able to identify the person who pawned it, according to Iizuka. Daryl Washington, a Los Angeles resident, was taken into custody and the other four guitars were recovered, authorities said.
Detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office for filing consideration, police said in a statement.
