What is better sound quality, New York City 5 or Los Angeles 75? I've heard La Friday is great.Performance wise?

There's only one great sounding NY tape the last night June 27 (the tape from 26 is incomplete) whereas there are 3 nice complete L.A. tapes July 9, 11 & 13 (which was a Sunday btw).
Imho the 75 tour started with a bang and finished in an armchair so I'd give the NY show(s) an edge since the band was hungrier...
The best tape is the 1975 07 11 L.A. soundboard but the show is kinda lame (at least inferior to the other L.A. gigs).

The LA show from the 13th is pretty prefect for an audience recording.
It is well balanced, very clear and the performance is great too.
This is easily one of the best audience recordings ever!

I personally find the soundboard from the 11th to be pretty poor, performance is not great and the guitars are way too low in the mix.
The LA show from the 9th is good, but Ronnie is too low in the mix, which is frustrating as this was one of his best tours.

The MSG show from the 27th is almost as good as the LA 13th show, great performance, rare performance of "Cherry Oh Baby", although Jaggers voice is rather shot, but he still sounds very cool.

If you only pick one, I'd say the LA 13th is your best bet.
I play this more than any other show from 1975 and it never gets boring.

I love talking about the 75 tour. I agree with Vudicus' comment about Ronnie's volume on the July 9th show, but I'd add that I actually think the 9th is a little bit better show than the 13th, primarily because Mick's singing is a bit better.

The 13th, though, is a very hot show -- hotter to my ears than the last NY show (27th). But, the NY show is a very good show, well recorded and is more under control/less manic than LA 13th.

Wouldn't walk across the street for the SB or the aud of the show from July 11.

Just my thoughts -- I'd say get all three: NY June 27, LA July 9, and LA July 13.

The boot known as 'LA Friday' is the greatest concert I've ever heard. It's fabulous. Beyond words. The show ends with Sympathy, and it's the best Sympathy they ever did IMHO.

Since you haven't asked I have a fondness for the 1ST Ny (June 22) : the press was here and you can tell the band is trying HARD to impress them (much like during the 1st L.A.)

the 7-13 la show is often regarded as one of their finest performances ever. it sure is a good listen- about as good a recording from that period as you'll run across, too. love the the new york show mentioned here as well. but, if you gotta pick one boot from '75, you can't go wrong with LA Friday (mistitled - the show was on a sunday, of course)....

I think both shows are worth having; however the winner is MSG #7 imo - from app TD it's just a fantastic performance.

Yes I agree - those 3 are the best ones from 1975 - at least for the ones who are looking for high-quality recordings of excellent performances
But once your ears are adjusted to a slightly less clear soundquality....Seattle and Fort Collins might get even more plays.....at least they do, over here - as the performance tops the 3 shows mentioned

Yes, I agree, Erik. I'd add that I think Seattle may be a bit hotter show than Fort Collins, but Fort Collins is very good and the recording sounds better than Seattle to me.

I have Ft Collins and it is very clear sound. I also have the Seattle 75 show but just a touch distant. Would be good to have it remastered.

It´s very ironic that the best documented show of the tour (Los Angeles 07/11) with three audio sources (two VG audience recordings and one soundboard) and a pro-shot video is also quite possibly the WORST performance of the entire tour.

I don´t know what happened to the band that day (excessive partying?) because the other Forum shows are excellent but the 07/11 concert is so bad it has to be listened to. Keith in particular is totally out of it.

Yeah I have the same opinion about this gig, glad to see I wasn't hallucinating about this "off" night

frisco? ahem - we here in SF take humbrage at that term. anyhoo - both frisco's are very good, sound-wise...recorded by the same guy who did the la's, i believe?

No it was 2 diff. guys and the 1st Bay Area show suffers from Keith's amp problem, hence its absence from Marko's list imo...

The sound quality of the SF shows from 75 just doesn't compare to LA. It's nice having the 2 SF shows on a 4 disc set, but I just can't listen to it as often with the quality of the LA shows being superior, and the same songs.

I could add first frisco show on the list as well, but its not that GOOD quality
as it is 2nd day,its EX audience recording.
I have both...naturally,1st night is original cd,2nd just cdr...

i agree of the La july 11th show, its actually horrible performance, while all
the other La shows were fantastic.......i really like july 9th,10th and 12th.

to those anyway,to me it sounds EX quality.Beginning to the end.
I might put it on RO tracker someday!
