I've been to Skye. That's as close as I got. Took the little ferry over there. No distilleries that I can remember though.

Got a Pinot Grigio, which was a present from a so called wine buff...saved it for Boxing Day then ceremoniously opened it, perfectly chilled, even brought out the best wine goblets for the occasion. I built up the tension by telling our friends, who were here for dinner the whole back ground to the acquisition of this fine wine and emphasised the fact it was a present from an 'expert'. Poured it slowly to further build up the tension then invited both guests to take a gulp. They did, and they nooded and mmmmmed and took another slurp, as did my wife and so it was my turn. I held it aloft in a triumphant and took a sip...yuk, it was like cold vinegar, sour, acidic - a huge disappointment. I'm no wine expert, far from it, but, I know a decent wine when I taste one and even cheap wines can be very nice, but this was really bad. Our poor guess still wouldn't appear rude by saying it was bad, but I bet once they had left they laughed about it all the way home.
The big dilemma s what to say to my friend who bought me it...it won't have been cheap, and he will have thought it was a huge success - do I tell t truth or lie?

sounds like a 'cooked' wine...one stored in heat, or exposed to heat somehow...Pinot Grigio is usually slightly acidic but flavorful...was it from northeast Italy?
