The Rolling Stones will never quit, says Ronnie Wood
Stones guitarist promises to 'rock 'til we drop', while revealing that he has been sober for seven months

The Rolling Stones will never retire, according to guitarist Ronnie Wood.

The veteran rock'n'rollers have long been the subject of speculation regarding their future, but speaking to BBC Radio 4's Front Row programme, Wood – who, at 63, is the band's youngest member – claimed that the band continue to look to the future.

Asked whether the ageing band would continue to play live for as long as possible, Wood said: "Oh definitely. The old phrase: We will rock 'til we drop!"

The Rolling Stones last released an album in 2005 with A Bigger Bang.

Meanwhile Wood himself, who has been battling alcoholism, revealed that he has now gone seven months sober. "I've never felt so comfortable with it," he added.

The Stones are set to release two limited-edition vinyl box sets next month, spanning their entire career.

Great---Why should they retire? Great music can still be made and played no matter how old or young you are..
Just have to have the desire...and still be alive...ha.

Ronnie is really doing well. Love his playing with the Stones, and the new album sounds good. Nicely done.

Indeed...and last played a note together in August 2007.

No wonder they're not going to 'drop' from all that 'rocking'...

I like Ronnie quite a bit, but all his answers and quotes seem to come straight from the book of tired rock cliches.

Then there are the things he invented for his book...

Yeah, I want to rock until I drop like the Stones. That means I'll either hardly ever rock or take forever to drop (ha ha). There's not going to be anyone dropping while rocking unless it's in a chair.

The difference is that nobody's making him do it this time. That's usually when it works.thumbs up

But isn't there that beautiful but expensive escort-girl around? Isn't she there to look after him? or kick his butt? Hmm, do I sound so non-romantic...sad smiley

Lemme guess, you're an expert on sobriety too. Who'd a thunk it. Alex, I'll have Sobriety for $100

Good. I think people should do what they want to do. Who am I to tell someone to retire because I think that is what they should do. People have criticized my extreme exercise regimen because some think I am too old to do it. Perhaps someone would like to buy me a rocking chair. I will do what I want, and to heck with everyone else.

So it goes with the Stones. I admire their stamina and energy. I love their music too.

But Flim - you're not charging obscene prices for half-assed performances.

Big difference.

The performances I have seen have not been half-assed, but have been phenomenal. I have never seen a bad Stones performance. I do hope that they all show up sober and ready to go. I hope Wood is sober, but he could go off the wagon. He has done this before.

Exactly...which is why it's hard to take seriously. If he means business, he will just quietly go about getting sober and stop bragging about how many weeks/months it has been, because he will look all the more foolish if he falls off the wagon again. Instead of trying to take credit for something that hasn't worked out about seven previous times, just keep quiet and go about your business. Let others comment on how wonderful it is after they see the change in you.

Last leg of the European Tour (2007) was plenty of bad shows. KR was like the mummy. Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
