In the 500-plus pages of Keith's book, I can recall exactly ONE brief passage where he says something about how at live shows the Stones give back the energy they get from the fans. That's really about all he has to say about what you seem to think is a special relationship the Stones have with their audience.

Well They are very sweet with us, just remember in 2003, the best seats in the houses for the theatre shows were reserved for us fans who slept outside the day before. That shows to me they are very caring and they know that we are them and they are us.

(it didnae hurt either that the tickets were cheap compared to the bigger shows!)

That's Pete Townshend's (whose band really did share a very special relationship with its fans) line. Telling your fans, "Thank you so much. You've been a wonderful audience" is not a relationship. This is a relationship:

The casual fans filling the stadiums are appreciated - the obsessive freaks on this board are too small in number to matter, plus we bitch and moan too much.

I don't care if and how they do speak about their fans. Let them concentrate on their music

Why on earth would any performer speak badly of their fans, excluding loony stalkers, of course?

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you!

Like Mick said at MSG 2003, the Rolling Stones and their fans are like family.

Didnt Keith say something good about his fans keeping his house cool in the summer?
and Mick may have said something good about the built-in stage fans keeping him cool at hot shows

For a while in the '70's, Lou Reed and Iggy Pop made a point of insulting their audiences. Take No Prisoners and Metallic KO are full of venom and bile directed at their audience, and others.

The Case of the Fan-Hurling Sengalese Singer vs. the Airborne Boy

Location: Dutchess Stadium, Fishkill, N.Y. Date: June 3, 2007. Incident: After a
fan threw something at him, Akon brought the 15-year-old kid on stage, where he
lifted him in the air and chucked him into the crowd. (a concussion and court
case has resulted)

And then of course there's Roger Waters, who while having been "trained not to spit in the fan," spat on a fan in Montreal in July 1977. Audio of this event can be found at [www.thetradersden.org] during Pigs (Three Different Ones).

They complemented us on the 1983 fan club 7" but then we'd paid good money to hear it (and the official fan club went on to rip of Beggars Banquet/Bill German).
