Sorry if this was already asked but I searched and couldn't find it. Who did the solo's, Keith or Mick?

"Sympathy for the Devil" would be like the Ya-Ya's version. Keith does the first solo, then from then on Taylor lets rip. It's been that long since I've listened to the Altamont gig but I'd imagine Taylor plays the solo on "Gimme Shelter".

Keith plays the solo on Gimmie Shelter, as he did on the studio version, as well as on all 1969-shows when it was played.

As far as SFTD goes, I don't remember. But there are some versions from the 1969-tour where Taylor plays even shorter solos than Keith.

Taylor plays the second solo on the Altamont SFTD. You can hear the beginning of it on the Gimme Shelter movie. But here you can listen to everything:

Here's the Sympathy For the Devil from Altamont.

Keith's (the first one) and Mick's solo (the second one) are rather well separated from each other and very well recognizable.

If anyone has heard a recording that shows otherwise, please let me know...But
as far as I know: With one exception (Oakland 2nd) SFTD in '69 was strictly a Taylor rhythm, Keith lead affair. I have no explanation for that Oakland Taylor solo. Somewhere along the line as the band moved east Taylor's solo got scripted in. Perhaps in Detroit. Perhaps that explains the comment: "We didn't really get it on until Detroit." Thereafter Taylor's solo was part of the act and we have that splendid, classic Ya-Ya's performance.

One has to wonder how Keith felt giving way to his new, exceptional lead guitarist.

He still had his solo. My guess is that he was happy with it.
