Hello one & all !


For the first time in nearly thirty years, yours truly has been has been selected to perform his civic duty by reporting for jury duty at my local court of law during the month of June.

I can't imagine why a miscreant like me would be chosen for such an important job but, nonetheless (if that's a real word), I vow to perform this responsibility to the absolute best of my ability, but I do need a wee bit of help.

It seems that in most cases, the vast amount of time serving jury duty is spent waiting in the jury pool before being called to actually serve, which obviously creates the dilemma of "what to do to prevent death by boredom?"


Since I am almost finished reading Life, I thought it would be nice to start on another book about the Stones.

The book would, obviously, need to be one I have not read before, and must be easily carried around so no large hardbacks, etc.

Please help this poor boy out with your suggestions !

I wonder if carrying a book about the Stones in a courtroom would get me excused from jury duty? (Just kidding.)

Seems like you've read most of the 'essential' Stones books.

Although, Bill German's Under their thumb is a must imo.

If you're still in the mood for more Keith, Victor Bockris's Biography is entertaining - as is Up and down with the Rolling Stones by Tony Sanchez (although how much of it is based on truth is questionable).


If you haven't already, I'd suggest the following - which aren't just about the Stones but feature great Stones content and the rest would be of interest to any self-respecting fan of fine rock'n'roll music.

Apathty for the Devil & The Dark Stuff (both by Nick Kent),

Had to serve a few years ago . Unless you have great skills in concentration reading will be rather difficult . They have televisions blaring away in the jury waiting room . There always seems to be someone who wants to talk to you and people are constantly getting in and out of the aisles forcing you to close the book , stand , sit again , open the book and say to yourself , "Where was I ? " .

If I were you I'd bring a magazine , maybe you'll be able to get through an entire article . Have fun .

I choosed Eric Claptons after reading Life and was recommended to skip Ronnies..

Not only is it informative, it's hilarious and probably the best Stones book I've ever laid hands on. Flet Chippo, as Keith called him. Absolutely brilliant book:

Yeah hardly any fans or "fans" know this one but it's a 1st-hand account of the 75-80 years (on the U.S. soil). Flippo never dealt with European affairs...

I prefer to be a good citizen and serve my duty, and I'm actually looking forward to it.
I live in a crazy city, and I think it's going to be interesting to see what happens.
It could be, though, that I may just sit in the jury pool and never actually get called, or be refused to sit on a jury.

I think it's illegal to talk publicly about what goes on in the jury room (at least it is in the UK).

I think the judge will instruct the jury not to discuss the specifics of the case outside of the jury room, but it's common to hear jurors talk about their experiences after the case is decided.

Jazz Fest certainly is a valid reason to not be involved in such a mostly worthless thing in my eyes.
