Greatest thing the Stones have ever done on record. Bill Wyman should have been encouraged to contribute more material.

Discuss.

Greatest thing ever done on record by The Stones???? Well I am thinking you are being sarcastic. It reminds me a bit of something from The Basement Tapes. Cute, innocent, and an entirely throw away track.

No, it´s not, imo. But it´s a nice little song. I´m not sure if it´s "The Stones" that play on it though. Sounds suspiciously like Ry Cooder on guitar, playing some of the licks that would end up on HTW.

No thanks, Professor. I didn't like assignments in high school. I like them even less now.

First time anyone has confused me with a professor, but thanks.

Yes, I was taking the piss, as the British say. But I rather like Bill's two contributions to the Stones songwriting legacy. Sad that there weren't any more after this one.

There was one before those two of course, albeit not officially released...

I copied and pasted lyrics here, but it turns out some were wrong so I've deleted them.

Yes, instead of Honky Tonk Women. They could've even opened the concerts on the 1975/1976 tours with the song. >grinning smiley<

I like it, including the lyrics, which have to them pith and wit.

DOWNTOWN SUZIE
B. Wyman

Got the Monday mornin' blues (Yeah, yeah, yeah)
Monday wasn't really real (Yeah, yeah)
Oh, lying on a naked bed (Yeah, yeah, yeah)
With an Alka Seltzer head (Yeah, yeah)

Oh, Lucy looked sweet just a-strollin' down Newport Street
Talkin' 'bout Lu, what ya gon' do?
And I feel so bad
Have you ever been had?
I'll dry out sweet Lucy

Took an early morning shower (Yeah, yeah, yeah)
Well, I wasted 'bout half an hour (Yeah, yeah)
I heard the ringing of the bell (Yeah, yeah, yeah)
It's Lucy with the clientele (Yeah, yeah)
Oh, I'm feelin' like the Sunday Times (Yeah, yeah, yeah)
And certain California wine (Yeah, yeah)
Oh Lucy kicked me in the hole (Yeah, yeah, yeah)
A Tenner's worth of achin' bones (Ooh-ooh)

Oh Lucy looked sweet just a-strollin' down Newport Street
Lord, Lu, what ya gonna do?
I feel so bad
Have you ever been had?
Got a dose from sweet lucy

Oh Lucy looked sweet just a-strollin' down Newport Street
Talkin bout Lu (who?) what ya gonna do?

Oh and I feeling so bad
Have you ever been had?
Oh, by sweet Lucy

I always wondered who/where is Suzy? She is not mentioned in the song...why isnt it Downtown Lucy?

Andyone know?

This was credited to Bill? Excellent! Why never released by ABKCO, I wonder?

Those lyrics are wrong. It's "Lyle Street Lucy", which was Wyman's original title. No idea why the title was changed, a bit like Dylan calling a song with the lyric "Open the Door, Richard", "Open the Door, Homer", though in that case the first title was already taken, and Homer was a nickname for Richard Manuel.

It's certainly surprising that Bill didn't choose it for The Black Box...
