Other than the peerless studio version..

Surely?

Keiths face after Lisa does her bit says it all.

Oh yeah, GravityBoy, that version is awesome. Lisa does a great job with Mary Clayton's vocal part. Look at Keith's smile at 3:05.

Imagine Taylor doing his solo á la '72 on this one... spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Imagine if they would have made Shine A Light in 1995 - could have been a classic. They really played well during this "Stripped" phase of their careers.

The one played during the 1st Paradiso'95 show. It even dawned on the badn it was great so they released it officially.

The one played in Praha in 1998 is excellent too!

Micks singing is terrible here, as it was for most of the VL tour. Very quivery. He sounded much better on the B2B tour.

Not best, and maybe posted here already, but the Rock Band version of Gimme Shelter is slightly different from the LET IT BLEED version.

For me the best versions are those of 1973 European tour

The Australia ones from winter '73 are aces.

Although the 10/17/73 Brussels show is regarded by most as their best boot, the version of Gimme Shelter from that show is marred by Keef's wildly out of tune guitar, particularly when they come into the last verse from Taylor's guitar break.

72/73 when it was singing quicker without chorus .

I prefer the 89/90 versions; although I'm Mick Taylor-fan, Ronnie is here the better choice ... wonderful solos often during this tour on GS.

I'm a big critic of Mick's live vocals after 1973, but he does a good job in this video.

They are all on fire - guitars are splendid and Charlie of course is good tonight.

That's the one you need to swop for the Empire Pool Wembley gig version :-) (which is also magficient).

I've often thought this. They made it 10 years too late.

As legendary as 72/3 is,that Paradiso Shelter might be the best ever. God knows where they pulled it out from,no other post 89/90 version i've heard has come even remotely close.

Honourable mention to this one,the darkest version ever and one of Micks great live vocals

There are several clips from Paradiso at the Stripped bootleg DVD in excellent quallity. I guess the whole gig was filmed. So the only thing is to release it officially (maybe with some minor picture remastering) and we would have the "1995 Shine a Light." It could be that easy. I bet it would be the ultimate Stones' DVD together with L&G. Except the whole Paradiso gig doesn't circulate as a bootleg.

Excellent!

Charlie: "That's what I do. I play the drums for Keith and Mick. I don't play them for me." Thats decent and unassuming, isn't it?

I love the "basher" comments from Mick and Keith at the end.. I'd like to see more of that. Is it available anywhere?

Here's the worse (phased / wah wah guitars, barking vocals & dreadful keyboards)...

it's one of my favourite versions
the one in Amsterdam'95 is good but a bit slow to me
I like the one in Japan feb 26th 1990 too

I agree that Amsterdam '95 drags a bit, & I think Lisa is a much better singer than they had in 1989-1990. So, St Louis '97 does it for me.

1973.

No version without both Mick Taylor and Bill Wyman can be considered among the best, imo.

I think Lisa (or a similar singer) is more essential to the song than any of those to be honest.
