The stars of Britain's most famous rock groups, including the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Sex Pistols, have been tipped to come together to form a spectacular supergroup for the launch of the London Olympics.

Organisers of the upcoming 2012 games are currently working out plans for the opening ceremony, which will be directed by Oscar winner Danny Boyle.

Gold medal-winning rower Sir Steve Redgrave has now revealed he is hoping to see Sir Paul MCCartney and Ringo Starr team up with with Sir Mick Jagger and John Lydon to put on a powerful display of British music talent to open the festivities.

He tells Britain's The People newspaper, "The London Games gives us a chance to celebrate our own history... We have to show the world what we are good at. If Sir Paul MCCartney and Ringo came together with great bands like the Rolling Stones and the Sex Pistols it would be fantastic. They are a huge part of our history. It would kick off the party and put us centre of the world's attention."

God what a dreadful idea. For one the Sex Pistols totally slagged off The Stones and Beatles, so I doubt very much Keith, Mick and Macca would even want to jam with The Sex Pistols. Never will happen.

This is a terrible idea.

Certainly seems unlikely, but maybe they meant to say they would perform seperately. Would be ok with me though, as I like them all.

Of course, with The Pink Zepsex Beatles Whostones with Elton and Roger May and Ray Davies and Ozzie and Paul Rogers and Peter Gabriel and Jeff Beck and Clapton and Rod, there's not going to be room for any musicians under 60 years old! The UK's rock/pop history in the world is just too strong to represent in anything short of a 3 day festival!
