Best Boot of Stones Live with Mr B.Jones?
Posted by: Captainchaos ()

Personally I've always loved the Taylor/Richards 71-73 era Live stuff and seen it as the pinnacle Live Stones.

I went to a mates last night though and heard 'Ruby Tuesday' on a live boot with Brian Jones playing Mellatron and its ammmmmazing! really really good

Some of the other tunes were amazing and i can appreciate the weaving/playing off each other approach so much more than that of the wood/richard variety.

Thing is this boot has no name?

Whats the best boot for hearing the Stones with Jones at their best?
ideally be after great sound/great playing

cheers for your help

There aren't many but I'd say the L'Olympia Paris collection from the mid-60s. I guess it's either that or Honolulu 66.

Without any doubt..... "Musicorama Mixdown"

A double CDR made by mr Watchit. Available on DIME.....maybe also on "Tell Me"
Features the best sources of Paris 1965, 1966 and 1967.....incredible listen
Beats "Got LIVE if You Want It" by a mile or two.

INFO FILE:

The original Rolling Stones lineup with Brian Jones has very few available concert recordings. Many radio and TV recordings survive but they aren't true concerts, just a few songs at a time. Fortunately for Stones fans, French radio recorded and broadcast four concerts in Paris from 1965 to 1967. The tapes have been rebroadcast several times over the years and been released on a number of bootlegs. All tracks were recorded at L'Olympia, Paris, France, by French radio.

This compilation is my attempt to combine the best source for each song for each concert. Previous bootlegs simply used one broadcast or rebroadcast. You had the choice of listening to a complete concert in fair to good quality, or a few songs in excellent quality. Now, 3 out of the 4 concerts are 3 or 4 source merges; the 4th is a single source. I made this compilation in Nov. 2004 and no longer have the files, so these are extracted from the CDRs I made at the time. Most of the material is sourced from trade CDRs; source D is sourced from a silver pressed CD, all extracted at the time using EAC. Source C is from a low gen. cassette into my PC using a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card.

I am told that the most recent rebroadcast was on French radio, July 1, 1995, in honor of the upcoming show at L'Olympia July 3, 1995. I am not sure if this is source A or C. I believe that this torrent is the source for DAC-007, "Paris Match," but have not heard it for comparison.

Art in PDF is included, made by someone else with my input. I named this compilation "Musicorama Mixdown" after the name of the French radio program and the process of mixing down multiple sources into one final product. Presented in FLAC 1.2.1. Includes cue sheets with CD text for burning. Enjoy, there are some rare songs and great performances here.

I don't know if you class Beat Beat Beat At The Beeb as "live" - a small studio audience at most - but some great performances there.

Many of the concert boots from the Brian era are of terrible quality. The one I would love is the 68' NME Pollwinner's, but that of course has not surfaced. Too bad. My favorite would be the 65' Pollwinner's because Brian's guitar is nice and loud.

Are the Paris recordings in stereo? That's the problem with the Honolulu concert is that it's from an AM mono broadcast.

I think the only bootleg Brian-era live recording is that 4-song BBC radio performance from 1963 that includes 'Cops & Robbers' (fantastic quality, but the guitars could be louder & the audience is a bit subdued).

Personally I don't have a problem with mono though...

Well, it does not sound like AM. On the best versions of this show it sounds like it is from the actual master tape used for the broadcast. Or a copy of the master. Or a copy of a copy of the master ... but definitely not recorded off AM airwaves...
