Oh my god at first glance I thought this thread announced that Chuck Berry is dead. Thankfully I mis-read it. Today is a good day!

I can remember seeing the 3/4" tape of this a long, long long time ago in one of the local TV stations editing room. It seemed like the tempo was a little too fast. One of the guys at the station said, they probably said speed it up so they could make the commercial break! Made sense to me.

CBII

I notice the Bigsby on that guitar. Was that a Guild or Epi or Gretsch of some kind? I don't recognize it.

Edmunds really has Chuck down. He played a carbon copy of Dear Dad. I was lucky enough to see Edmunds play with Chuck at the Felt Forum in NYC during Chuck's 60th birthday year; it was a band Dave put together with some real name players. A fan gave Chuck a rocking chair as a birthday gift....

"Dear Dad" is a gem, he had quite a few great songs in the first half of the sixties. The trouble is many people upon hearing them would think they were older. The same thing happened with "Don't Stop" among more than a few casual Stones fans. Chuck's output from 1955 through 1965 was stellar. Once he went to Mercury and did inferior remakes of his Chess catalog, my interest waned considerably. His return to Chess in the early seventies had some good songs, but they're overshadowed by the success of the forgettable "My Ding-a-ling" and the live version of "Reelin' and Rockin'." I was sorry to see Chuck written off as a novelty act at that time. Even his late seventies work for Atlantic had some good songs in there.

The song California on the RockIt album is a song somebody like Edmunds could re-work really well.

Yes. Which also contains a pretty good St. Louie Blues.

The last verse is terrific:

Well Dad, send the money,
See what I can see,
Try to find a Cadillac,
A Sixty-two or three.
Just something that won't worry us
To keep it on the road.
Sincerely, your beloved son,
Henry Junior Ford

Definitely a Gibson ES335 (looks like a mid '62 to'64 version).
