Hidden Gems

So, I was thinking the other day about songs that for some reason or another never became the great hits they deserved to be.

Take "Can't you hear me knockin" for example. An absolutely fantastic rock song, and my favorite RS song, but many many people out there probably won't ever hear it.

Aonther one that comes to mind is Led Zeppelin's Since I've been lovin you.
The best blues song I know of, and the same story. People who are not fans of LZ will most likely never come over this song, unless for some reason they stumble across LZ III.

And in this day and age, fewer and fewer poeple buy whole albums, or so it seems.
Therefor my Q is, what is you favorite "Hidden gems"?
Songs that one is not likely to come across without being somewhat fans of a band?

Serge Gainsbourg - Le rock de Nerval

Tyrannosaurus Rex (Marc Bolan) - Chariots of Silk

David Bowie - Lady Grinning Soul

Syd Barrett - Love Song

Kate Bush - Jig of Life

Probably a hidden gem for us in the States, but in the UK it was a #1 single for a few weeks. I was in the UK in the summer of 1981 and that song was everywhere.
Great record, great single.

Great record, great single.

You had to seek it out in the States. 12" 3-song EP. It had "Friday Night/Saturday Morning" too. What was the third song? Can't remember...

This album has a bit of a cult following, but perhaps your casual King Crimson/prog rock fan might miss it and/or not like it because it ain't very KC or 'eavy.

It's mostly written by the original KC member(Ian McDonald) who wrote most of the first King Crimson album.

Anyway Ian McDonald and Michael Giles recorded this album in 1970 after they left King Crimson in December 1969. I love it! smiling smiley

Aerosmith has an album called Gems - Chip Away the Stone that is one my favorite hidden gems. I've always wished the Stones would do something like this but with the internet they don't need to any more.

The Libertines talk got me thinking of this again:

Dirty Pretty Things' Truth Begins.

The best song from their absurdly underrated second album and one of the best songs. Just wonderful.

I always considered "Can You Hear Me" more of a FM radio song, I can't see it being an AM hit. I always thought "Silver Train" should have been a decent AM hit in the 70's. I know some consider it an "All Down the Line" knock off, but it has a catchy chorus and chugs along at a nice pace. "All Down the Line" is almost too frenetic to be an AM hit.

I read others mentioning Bowie in this thread, I always thought "Stay" should have been top 40.
