Is the official release better than the boot for sound quality.

yes - but it's rife with overdubs, too....like 200 extra guitars on crackin' up alone....

The boot (the latest one) is GREAT!
What always amazes me about the "Mannish Boy" rendition, is that the Stones did all the noise before the song starts EXACTLY the way it is with Muddy; all the ad lib guitars and the "ho ho-ing".
But then I heard Muddy do it with the Band, and they do it too.

it's the way it's done on the original studio version by muddy...you HAVE to include that part, legally-speaking....

The one I have is Live At The EL Mocambo Club 1977 on the SODD label[not sure if it's the latest version].

This was always a favorite, Jagger's vocals and the band are so up-front in the mix, not alot of noise.
I was dissapointed to learn about overdubs....I always thought this was the best single recording of the Stones live....

So it's incorrectly titled, to keep with the bad bootleg titles etiquette.

...Good thread - so what IS the 'latest' - or better: best - one?
(Prefereably downloadable. My PC doesn't have issues... for the time being. winking smiley )

The legendary El Mocambo recordings from 1977. Too bad there's not more material circulating from these gigs. Fantastic performance, IMO.
Tracks 8-10 are taken from an acetate, and is the best part of this boot. Jimmy Page once mentioned Dance Little Sister from this bootleg in an interview...something about "you can forgive Keith Richards for anything when you listen to Dance Little Sister from El Mocambo". But it's actually Ronnie Wood who plays the coolest licks on that one"

Jimmy Page was talking about those simply rythm chords that in reality are very complex no to play out of time. They seem very easy, but is very dificult

Thanks Keessie!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is like finding The Holy Grail for me. WOW!!!

Why didn't the Stones release this in 1977 ???? !!! This release would have been completely relevant in that time frame...Autumn 1977...Pistols and Clash have exploded on the scene...the Stones prove they're not Dinosaurs...this filthy little barroom set is totally in keeping with the Zeitgeist and the Stones' punk / dirty bar band bona fides would have been immediately (re)assured...and this would have been a huge hit and the perfect precursor to Some Girls. Hot Damn!

Yes indeed it is, my favourite version of that one. A song I dig to begin with

The sound of the old vinyl (and the VGP) during the very last seconds of Hand Of Fate really suits the high energy....as Keith's guitar sounds like it's burning during that last guitarstroke....some sort of feedback/muddiness with the recording

Re: EL Mocambo 77

...Another question: my PC don't seem to recognize these DVD-files - they won't burn on a disc. What to do?!

"my PC don't seem to recognize these DVD-files - they won't burn on a disc"

Imhot they're totally disposable. I fought tooth and nail to open the .exe file that contained them... only to realize after playing them that they suck (imho).

The El Mocambo show would be a great piece to look at for the Stones to release officially. The entire show! much like the Dylan bootleg series or the live Neil oung recordings. There is El Mocambo, the lost 72 live album, the farwell gig at the Roundhose 1970 or 71 and of course Brussels/Wembly and even something from 78 or a complete 81 show. They are missing the boat on this. These would sell just look at the Exile release.

...you could be right, there... for I have a very intelligent PC, with impecable taste, ànd a strong mind of its own. smoking smiley

Thanx for the feedback!

that sounds cool. at the end of the song you can hear how the audience, who is actually pretty low in the mix, is blown away. Lots of cheering and applause.
