I see your point but I don't think 'Winning Ugly' is better than 'The Crystal Ship' by the Doors, just because it is a Rolling Stones song.

Maybe that's where the problem lays with the Stones, they were so good for so long, their reputation has grown on the b.b./exile era, and now they believe their own hype? That and a combination of age and yes men??
But then again it's all subjective cause I love 'Family', I always thought the song rocked!

In a word....No
At least not to me.
It seems to me to even suggest that anything the Stones do
would be better than something good from another band
goes to the heart of where the word fan comes from ...
Fanatic.
Sorry

The thread about 10 Worst Stones cuts made me reflect on this. There are many songs from the Stones, when they were still the "real" Rolling Stones, that are not that great, but the very fact that they are a Stones song makes them tops again.
Take "Family" or "Hang Fire"; IMO these are not good songs. Or even "Empty Heart", "Good Times Bad Times'...terrible songs, Haha... But, when they come on my player in the car I will crank that b*tch.
So is a bad Stones song, still better than a good other-band song?
Does "Take it or Leave it" beat "Highway Star" by Deep Purple?

some people seriously need to stop putting the stones on a pedestal. it's one thing to say they are your favourite band, but to say that nobody comes close to them, even with their worst songs, is just ridiculous. there are SO MANY great bands out there. "world's greatest rock and roll band" is just a marketing ploy. there's no such thing. if you think that the stones are high up on their own planet and every other band are miles and miles below them, then you need to get your head checked. the stones have the "touch", the "feel", they "swing". but guess what, so do other bands. i love the stones but do i think they are the greatest ever? no. there's no such thing.

Indeed. Well said. This has always been my point of view from the start of listening to rock music . . .

no...stones have a lot of bad songs, and they are not still 'good' as compared to others.
They should come out with a CD of 'Worst of the Rolling Stones'. They could call it "40 Farts"
