I have it from Dylan 30th anniversary but it's in storage; anybody have an MP3 they can post so I can blare it on the stereo and make a case for best Dylan cover ever? Loser picks up the impending bar tab, lol.

well, what sort of story are you looking for, DandelionPowderman?
it was the single from Gimme Some Neck, and that's the video clip
(i have a funny feeling i don't understand what you're asking - sorry!)

No, here's the story:

After Mick Taylor left the Stones, Mick Jagger started receiving tons of letters from a selected
group of fans, led by a Dutch taylor, that all wrote something along the lines: "you should never
have allowed your guitar player to leave the band. We not appreciate The Stones anymore
if it happens again!" (angry smileys inserted here)

So Mick started to worry about what would happen in Woody would leave the band, so he went
with Ron to a certain German doctor located somewhere in South America and had him make
some clones of our beloved guitar player. If one Ronnie would leave the band, there would
be about six Ronnies left to chose from. The Ronnies were locked in a big vault somewhere
in a secret location in the middle of Nebraska.

One day, though, security was low and six Ronnies escaped from the vault. They decided
to rent a studio in LA together and played the first Bob Dylan song they could think of.
Luckily a cameraman was witness of it all and kept the video for all of us to see.

Has it really been that long since I listened to Gimme Some Neck??? I didn't recognise the steel guitar, nor some of the mistakes Ronnie does on this version. I'm turning 40 soon - that must be it... confused smiley

Hmm.. yeah... a subtandard Dylan tune but easily the best written individual song by a mile in Ronnie's catalog. Well, "I Can Feel The Fire" is another good one. And then there was... aah, I forgot.

Anyway, I recall some kind of story of it's origin. Dylan having just composed it, was first offering the song for Eric Clapton to record but who somehow refused. Then Ronnie just happened to around, and said something to effect "Give it to me! Give it to me!" So Bob did. And that's it. End of the story.

well, that's the truncated version. real fans spent the extra bucks for the 5cd edition that featured a photo catalogue of his greatest poses...that was only available on the first 3 million copies though, so it's a collector's item now.

Aah, we are talking VOl 1 here, covering 1974 to 1979, which "Seven Days" almost made but not quite. Dylan is still said to be a bit upset about it, but hey... only the top three entries were included, so sorry...

Ronnie's new album is SUPERB! Better than the Stones' last one anyway IMHO.
