It's better than all of Dogshit In The Doorway. Think the lyrics are about The Rolling Stones? Or Keith? Ha ha: "We haven't spoken in months, you see I've been counting the days" lines, onward to the addict lines even?
One of the highlights of the last decade. Mick was starting to settle into his reliance on cliched lyrics, but infinitely better than "Streets of Love" or "Following the River."
ho hum lyrics but a good, catchy pop tune. it would have been a much better "ballad" track for ABB instead of Streets and Mistake. It's also got one of those choruses that sticks with you the first time you hear it, which is a gift for anyone who's ever written a pop song.
I prefer "Biggest Mistake," but consider "Old Habits" a highlight for Mick solo. Both songs show how he can produce mature introspective lyrics that aren't cringeworthy.
The duet version with Sheryl Crow is better than the solo version. It's amongst Dave Stewart's best songs. And it's a pretty good Jagger solo tune as well. There are more hidden gems on that Alfie soundtrack album as well.
Quote proudmary I like it. It seems "Old Habits"and "Biggest Mistake" about the same event
Biggest Mistake was probably written for 'Alfie'. A few other songs on ABB were leftovers/unfinished from that era - ie Laugh I Nearly Died, Streets of Love etc.
