I think I should've included the Black Keys to my absolute favorites as well... I also like the Eels, and that guy's book is brilliant. Funny, this isn't the first time I spot a Black Crowes/Eels fan connection - they are quite different, aren't they, I even I don't know why I like the both of them myself.

By the way, it's nice to follow bands/artists who release new material frequently, like Black Crowes, the Black Keys and Eels (3 new albums in 18 monts!).

Absolutely, it just goes to show that things can still be done this way. Maybe it requires that the artist is a bit under the radar and more or less in complete control of their careers. This isn't some over indulgent ego madness either, since all three have released some of their best work during those 18 months.

A random few I like:
The Black Keys
X
Led Zeppelin
Iggy- with and without the Stooges, but mostly with.
MC5
Johnny Cash
Elvis
Velvet Underground/Lou Reed
David Bowie
Link Wray
The Cramps
Bo Diddley
Muddy Waters
Freddie King- mostly 50's to early 60's stuff, not so much the 70's albums
The Ramones
New York Dolls
60's Beach Boys
AC/DC
The Sonics
The Detroit Cobras
and a whole lot of others.
