More like 30. I gave up on it in the early-to-mid 80s.

I have a subscription that I've renewed every two years since the 80s. Yes, I remember when it was a 'street paper', then a rock magazine with less politics, and finally an entertainment magazine. Now Matt Taibi writes really good political articles, the kind you can't find in newspapers any more. There's a lot of fluff, but with the failure of radio to promote new music, Rolling Stone magazine still turns me on to new sounds. With that said, MOJO is a far, far superior music only mag.

Rolling Stone sometimes surprises me with an article here and there...usually an indepth story or profile. My generation doesn't have a Rolling Stone magazine "good old days" legacy. Apparently, it started to suck by the time the 80's came around. It was (and still) is a decent magazine and something I would naturally pick up if I saw it lying around.

partly why rolling stone magazine sucks anymore is because for the most part the current music scene sucks

They can't even give it away these days. A free subscription comes when you buy concert tickets these day, and if you don't want it, you have find the tiny check box to opt out.

dont blame the music scene for that piece of garbage.there are plenty of good musicians out there but jann would rather put the boys from twilight on the cover and then sell us a bunch of his politics.

its too bad he got away with using the name "rolling stone"

Yeah, how dare Jann and Bob Dylan and Brian steal it from Muddy Waters.

it´s true in most cases, although I buy every edition since it came out in the mid 90ies (german). a friend of mine who also reads it every month has the same opinion so one time per month we have stuff to talk about. musicians without talent often become critics.
some strange thing about the german rolling stone is that from time to time they find somebody they want to push. for a string of volumes he/she is in every magazine. it started with ryan adams (i found it ok) one time they loved adam green (so/so) and now they love Gysbert zu Knyphausen, who is really rubbish, or at least rubbish. and they get letters in wich they are asked what they own to Gysbert beacuse he´s in every edition and always appreciated, also they gave away a cd of him for free, wich proved that he´s rubbish.

yes copernicus,we all know where the name came from.the inference was that the title was used for a classic song and a great band and then downgraded by being used by a suckjob magazine.come on people,i know you're better than this.these responses are killing me over here.

Rolling Stone magazine hasn't been relevant to music since the year I graduated highschool. I'm 53.

The recent Rolling Stone mags I've bought had Brian Johnson, Malcolm and Angus on the cover and then ones with Mick, Keith and what's is name, Keith and Johnny Depp and then the most recent one of Keith on the cover.

I've always enjoyed Q, actually. And there is Classic Rock:

Rolling Stone is now nothing more than a cross between Newsweek and People. I stuck with them from the beginning. Shame. There is still alot of Rock out there. How much coverage did the new Bad Company tour with Paul Rodgers, Mick Ralphs and Simon Kirke rate? What about Deep Purple? The hottest live band around. Saw them in Europe this past October. They, like Queen in the 80s have gave up on the US. Has Justin Bieber made the cover, yet?

Admittedly they are an entertainment/music magazine, covering film and music. Look, if American, or U.K. music was all that fascinating I'm sure they'd be covering it. Oh, excuse me, I have to go read the last interview with John Lennon, in Rolling Stone magazine.

John Lennon's last interview, in Rolling Stone magazine. A 30 year old reprint. I read this when it first came out. Not trying to start anything, I just feel that RS has become...a corporation. True, they have always been one. A sound business firm. Have to stay with the times. Just wish they would change their name. Rolling Along? Has a nice ring to it.

' Just wish they would change their name.' - deep purple

So, should the Stones change their name to Rolling To A Stop?
