I agree that "The Rolling Stones, Now!" is both excellent and underappreciated, and that "Down The Road Apiece" is a fantastic track, but...

...calling it "best cover ANYBODY has ever done" breaks the meter measuring hyperbole. The great covers are the ones that artists take ownership of, and there are even better examples than "Down The Road Apiece." Aretha Franklin's cover of Otis Redding's "Respect" is one obvious candidate, or the Byrds' covers of "Mr. Tambourine Man" or "My Back Pages" by Bob Dylan (among others )

Even the Stones covers of the Valentinos' "It's All Over Now" or Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away" are better examples than "Down The Road Apiece." But it is one exhilarating piece of music, without a doubt.

"Down The Road Apiece" in 1981 was absolutely excellent; but.....their 1972 live versions of Bye Bye Johnny was even more rocking

Still.....it doesn't make sense to say "the best cover anybody has done"....but I guess the original poster didn't mean it literally
