Regent Sound Studios, London, UK, September 28 & 29, 1964

Mick Jagger - lead vocals, harmonica
Keith Richards - electric guitar, harmony vocals
Charlie Watts - drums
Bill Wyman - bass
Brian Jones - electric guitar

Well, you've grown up all wrong
Well, you've grown up all wrong
You come on too strong
Well, you've grown up all wrong
Well, you were easy to fool when you were in school, but
You've grown up all wrong

Well, you've grown up on me
Well, you've grown up on me
Don't believe what I see
Well, you've grown up on me
Well, you look so sweet when you're in your jeans, but
You've grown up on me, yes you have

Well, you've grown up too fast
Well, you've grown up too fast
Don't forget about the past
Girl, you've grown up too fast
Well, you won't be a fool, but I'm through with you
Well, you've grown up too fast
Well, you've grown up too fast

Produced by Andrew Loog Oldham

First released on:
The Rolling Stones - “12 x 5” LP

A new fave. The SACD reissues of 2002 really made this album come to life.

Last week we had "Gotta Get Away" and now this one, an other song that doesn't do it for me, and there are only a hand full of songs from this period that didn't work for me

I like this one. Got an interesting groove, a cool vibe to it, especially Brian's slide and Jagger's harp. Melodically, it's a cousin to the Beatles' Can't Buy Me Love, but this track is wayyyyyyy cooler.

Not a classic, but a keeper nonetheless.

It's not particulary good, no. But it's 1964 and Mick and Keith are still learning, so...

It is apparently an effort to write an lyrically updated "original" blues number with no success. It really examplifies the difficultness of Jagger/Richard duo in the early days to write a kind of music they liked it or suited to teh style of the band. Like they have said it was easier to write melodic pop. For example, "Tell Me" is much better than this. Anyway, "The Last Time", "The Spider and The Fly" and "Satisfaction" indicated that it is possible even though I would claim it would took until BEGGARS BANQUET they were able to come up with mature, original sounding blues-based music.

I love the swooping guitar - presumably played by Brian. I bet a lot of those garage/psychedelic bands like Chocolate Watch Band and The Electric Prunes copped a few ideas from this one. Great sneering punk attitude too.

I don't think that there is any slide on this track!

The wobbly main motif also plays the non slide solo where the wobble remains, the wobble probably being provided by a vibrato effect hence why it is there for both the motif and the solo.

Thus I think it is Keith who plays the main guitar parts people assume is slide guitar played by Brian.

Love this track; no one mentions the great gallop effect by Charlie on the snare. This is pure early Stones IMO with Brian comping a few chords and Keith IMO on the lead guitar.

I also think it's great - don't forget Mick's singing on this one, which I think is classic Mick!

Actually this is they only highlight of the song, but not enough for me to call it good song.
