the Boss jumped on stage with Alejandro Escovedo at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey last Saturday night. One of the 3 songs was Beast of Burden:

I'm at work, so can't see if my link worked. Here's another one from a Boss fan site:

Love the Boss, Love the Stones and I really love Beast of Burden.

That all being said, this reminds me of the scene from the Robin Williams movie "Good Morning, Vietnam" where the Vietnamese bar band is singing America's "Horse with No Name", ugh...

God that's awful. Decrepit Rolling Stones do a better version than that. I never heard of Alejandro Escovedo but he sucks hard.

They should never have done that to such a great song.

Once again Springsteen showing that he is a true rocker. Was on the road 9 out of the last 11 years and still showing up in the clubs. The man just can't sit still. Wouldn't be surprised if he is back on the road before the stones. (oh no!)

Good chance and that version is better than the Stones can play it these days.

I strongly doubt that. At any given moment The Stones will do a much much better version. thumbs up

Escovedo is worth checking out. He's a great songwriter and can play a mean ballad and rock out.

The question is, Who's god-awful soloing ability was Bruce imitating, Ronnie or Keith?

Your thoughts...

From a profile angle, Bruce is looking a lot like Fred Flintstone these days.

Spot on! I couldn't ID it myself, but that's hilarious.

It's an OK version. Nothing more, nothing less. But I do get tired of Bruce's chin. Don't ask me why, I just do.

I guess the Bedrock Twist is his next cover tune.
Bedrock! Twist! Twist!

As an unrehearsed, guest appearance? Doubtful,to be honest.

Speaks volumes that when the E-Street Band go on tour after a long hiatus, they rehearse for about two weeks. The Stones rehearse for about five or six.

If it's played good or bad is not the question in this case. Of course it sounds better when the Stones play this song. It is a Stones song!!!
Born to run sounds best when the Boss plays it.
The important thing here is, that Bruce shows his respect to the Stones by playing one of their songs. Going to a small local club and hitting the stage for a few songs is also great. He's giving something back to the place where he started.
And by the way I like this version, because he looks like he's having lots of fun and that's what it should be all about, when you make music.

Exactly. He's having fun. Not trying to make a million dollars. Excellent post.

I always thought Beast of Burden deserved "warhorse" status. Nothing will ever top the 78 version, but it is such a great, great song. No tour should be without it!

It seems like alot of my fellow stones fans have a hard time giving credit to anyone. Sort of like, if it's not the stones it's no good. That's the impression I get. It's a shame.
