So Bridges To Babylon was one that, when it came out in 1997, I desperately wanted to love. But I simply didn't. Lack of focus, too many undercooked tracks - it just didn't have the consistency of classic like Sticky or Some Girls, or even Voodoo for that matter. I DID like it mind you, but I wanted to like it more.
Over the years I have softened in some areas. "Lowdown" was one that I held out on for years. Boring lyrics, a somewhat generic hook - it felt like pure filler to me.
These days I am warming up to it. For starters, it is a great SOUNDING track. Keith's guitar is captured beautifully, I love the loudness of Charlie's drums, the prominent bass runs. I really dig the mix. Plus, there's all kinds of other little things, like Ronnie playing around on slide, that are more buried in the mix and sound better with head phones.
Okay, so it's still filler. The lyrics are still silly, and the chorus sounds better than it really is. But the song has a nice groove, and it's held up a lot better for me than say, "Let Me Go" or "Rock In A Hard Place".

Lowdown is one I just could never really get into. I like alot on the album though. Even though I liked Voodoo Lounge much better.

It's better than everything on Steel Wheels and Bigger Bang and anything on Voodoo Lounge other than Thru and Thru. But it ain't no Out of Control!

Btb is a solid album. How many albums from 1997 can still be listened to with joy? Not many, but Btb is one of them.
