Too bad one of them is terribly underrated and the other is terribly overrated.

I would say Elvis is terribly underrated & it is impossible to overrate St. Robert
.
If you meant it the other way around, I am baffled by your logic, Mr. Lizard.

This is also Babe Ruth's death anniversary.

Well, calling Elvis Presley underrated would be a little strange.

Elvis is underrated by many. Some people (who don't know much about him) think of him as a kind of combination of joke and icon. He's a marvellous singer...and of course an icon, but not a joke. Some of his fans are a bit wierd though.

I disagree. A lot of people write Elvis off because of his image in his later years, his crappy movies, etc.

Additionally, everyone raves about Robert Johnson, so I don't know why you would consider him underrated.

Yes, he was a fantastic singer, but that's where it ends musically.

Leonard - I've always thought that as well.

Erik - I didn't read your post about Elvis until after I posted mine. We have the same thoughts.

judged by one's own era......Babe Ruth was the best ever by far......he hit more home runs than whole teams combined

yeah but does it have the new and improved dolby button?

Elvis (as several of you have pointed out), is underrated because of his "comical" later years and the fact that he died whilst dropping deuce.

If you can respect the Possum, Lady Day & Patsy Cline (and Frank, for that matter) as pure singers/interpreters despite the fact that they weren't writers, you should also respect EP.

A great, great pop singer.

God rest his tubby soul. The man was spectacular.

Honestly, though, Robert Johnson was ten times the singer Presley was, and he played guitar at the same time.

Nicely put Cosmos - I think you won that argument.

I especially like your use of Dropping Deuce. Cracks me up EVERY TIME!

Shakespeare was a fantastic play-writer, but that's where it ends literary.
