I am NEW to IORR
Posted by: CupofLove ()

Hello there..I am new to the IORR... I was introduced to the Stones through my fiancee', My first Stones album was SHINE A LIGHT...it didn't take more than 4 songs and I was hooked...the one song that grabbed me was LOVING CUP, but now I just want to hear them all, I am currently learning the beginning of "Satisfaction" on the guitar. I will admit I am no Keith Richards but it sure is fun leaning to play like one of the best.....If there are any songs or albums you would recommend listening to or could just introduce yourself I would love it...Have a great day and keep on rocking

"I Would Love to Spill The Beans With You Til Dawn"!!!

I've always said that if I were on a desert island and could only take one Stones record, it'd be Sticky Fingers (but I'd also secretly hide Exile on Main Street under my shirt).

Welcome to the I.OR.R. forum!

Ah! Fresh Blood!

I envy you that you get to begin a journey that WE ALL went down, and loved every second!

Yes, I would start w/ Hot Rocks as Ghost ryder suggested.

I'd read "In Their Own Words" - for a quick easy read to begin.

And
POST, POST, POST,

ASK, ASK, ASK,

LEARN, LEARN, LEARN,

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

THE ROLLING STONES - THE GREATEST ROCK 'N' ROLL BAND IN THE WORLD.

Not only will you learn bout the the Stones, but their influences, the blues, the music, the people behind & stories behind it..along the way you will meet some amazing people as well....

The late -- Brian Jones
The Lost Stone Mick Taylor
The Piano Men Stew & Nicky!

And alot of rock and rock along the way!!

Oh p.s. and if in your search you come across a song called 'gomper' or 'winning ugly' - don't turn your back and walk away, we'll explain bout all that later hehe

Welcome! You have a great journey of discovery ahead of you. My recommendation: Get a collection like Hot Rocks to learn the "classics", then try a couple of great albums like "Let It Bleed", "Sticky Fingers" or "Aftermath". Then and only then, allow yourself some time alone, a good stereo or pair of headphones, a glass of wine (or something), and put on "Exile On Main Street". Do this one day every week for a few weeks until the music starts to ooze through your bloodstream. As you probably know, this album has both "Loving Cup" and "Shine A Light" on it (which you have mentioned). Warning: It's addictive.

For the Sixties, start with the compilation "ROLLED GOLD" which have every hit from that golden period.

For the later period buy "JUMP BACK".

If you wish to buy regular albums i will recommend the following:

AFTERMATH (UK) - 1966
- BEWARE! There are two versions of this album. It has something to do with how they where released in England and USA at that time, more on that later...
BUY THE PINK TINTED VERSION

BEGGARS BANQUET - 1968
LET IT BLEED - 1969
GET YER YA-YA'S OUT! (live) - 1970
STICKY FINGERS - 1971
EXILE ON MAIN ST. - 1972
SOME GIRLS - 1978
TATTOO YOU - 1981

Hope my recommendationsill help you. Enjoy your stay here...

Hey CupofLove ,welcome !
It's nice to know that some young people discover & enjoy the Stones ,too.

My fellow Iorreans already gave you good recommandations about the records.
Yes, Get Yer Ya Ya's Out is the live album to get ,indeed !

But the Stones collection is a bottomless rig,you know .

It seems someone here knows you alreadycool smiley. Welcome!

You asked for a recommendation. I would say: start somewhere or even just at the beginning. My first one was Through The Past Darkly, a compilation album. Just great. But why not beginning with: The Rolling Stones, their first one. (In the meanwhile enjoying Get Yer Ya Ya's Out!) Have fun here!

Good Luck. Piece of advice. Just don't embroil yourself in a Ronnie Wood Vs Mick Taylor discussion (you can read that as all out war and it can get bloody!!). Having said that welcome aboard the good ship IORR.

Welcome,CupofLove! I understand you very well, being caught by Shine A Lidht myselfsmiling smiley. For me the most interesting way to learn them proved moving from Shine A Light backwards - through A Bigger Bang, Bridges to Babylon etc.)) And then movies and books and photos... ah, real ocean of delight))
