ah--never thought of that one that way. now whenever I listen to it I won't be able to think of it any other way..
the harmonica tone on it is very unusual, as is the chord sequence

I think Torn And Frayed is underappreciated - I realize it's on Exile and therefore has been widely heard but I've never really heard anyone talk about what a major song it is. First of all, the Mick/Keith relationship is the most fascinating relationship within the Stones and we have a country-ish song that is clearly a Keith type song but the lyric is Mick describing Keith. The central metaphor of the song - the torn and frayed coat of the guitar player is the most profound one ever used in a Stones song IMO.Keith's backing vocals are amazing as they are on all of Exile. This song never fails to move me and that's why I think it's an underappreciated song. Also love the pedal steel solo(probably added at Sunset Sound).

You will think I'm trying to be sarcastic here, but I'm not.
I have to say Gimme Shelter - in my opinion it can never ever be appreciated as much as it should be.
