Beatles, Stones... Rush

"Rush has sold more than 40 million records worldwide and garnered untold legions of devoted and admiring fans. According to the RIAA, Rush's sales statistics place RUSH third behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum studio albums by a rock band."

----

I'll admit, I was never a huge Rush fan. I appreciated what they did, I just wasn't a big fan. That is, until me teenaged son started listening to them (a lot) -- then I started to get it. For him, they ended up tying the Stones as his favorite band, so it was a thrill for him to meet them yesterday as they got their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

I was writing a piece on the band and so we got to meet them for a bit - and they were terrific - funny, self-effacing -and VERY nice to the hundreds of fans - signing, taking photos - the whole thing.

They've also released a new documentary that, unlike this recreated, inaccurate thing the Stones released for Exile, is the real deal - what a band doc should be.

Just a note to say hats off and much appreciation to Rush - an underrated band (no Hall of Fame for these guys) who are cool with the fans, and still play their asses off as they always have - as a three-piece with no fill ins

rock on, Rush

Rush are talented musicians. but i just can't look past geddy lee's voice. if they were an instrumental band i would be into them more.

Ain't that the truth. Great musicians, but Geddy Lee's singing is like fingernails scraping the chalkboard.

Rush has ALWAYS been about the fans. Just look back at what they've unearthed from the vaults through the years.

They call me the working man...I guess thats what I am. They put on a hell of a live show, but it is interesting the older I get the more grating Geddys voice has become.

I find that the older Geddy gets, the less irritating his voice is.

I have always been curious how only three players live
on stage can play songs with so many layers and overdubs.

What about the voice of Geddy Lee? How did it get so high? I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy.
