Am I wrong or have the two Johannesburg shows 1995 been the only Stones shows
on the african continent so far ?

Any infos about the reactions in public and media back then ?

I wonder whether they will do it again...

I can't believe the Stones were right here, and I never went to watch them. @#$%&! Why was I born in '94 and not just like a decade earlier.

They should do it again! As I said in a earlier thread I'd give an arm and a leg to go. But, there's not much of a fan base here to be honest. So I guess I'll have to fork out that 8 million for them to come to my private gathering.smiling bouncing smiley

Well, if tradition means anything, they'll play there next year as they tend to tour on World Cup countries.

1982-Spain
1986-Mexico (didn't tour until '89)
1990-Italy
1994-USA
1998-France
2002- Well, they didn't get to Japan until 2003.
2006-Germany
2010-So Africa???? Big maybe.

Thanks for all 23 clips, UrbanSteel. That's got to be close to the entire show!!! Certainly longer than many boots that I have.

And I am sure Johannesburg was absolutely wild.

Greetings from the Jersey Shore.

Blondie Chaplin from Durban says it's one of his dreams to go to South Africa and play with the Stones during the Football World Cup... I bet he's mentioned it to his colleagues.
I missed the Johannesburg shows, so I'd really love to see them in Africa this time around.

I think leteyer meant specifically that on the Licks Tour they didnt play Japan until 2003.

The 2002 World Cup was held in Japan and South Korea. The Stones have never played in South Korea.

The 'trend' for touring only really applies to when the WC has been held in Europe. They toured Europe in 82,90,98 and '06 during the tournament. The 1994 World Cup in the US was over before the Stones tour started.

In his memories, Bill states they had scheduled a show in the sixties in an english-speaking country in Africa - can't remember now which country, but of course never happened.

I think Bill mentioned Zambia, but i really can't belief that, the people there don't know the Stones. The stones are really white folks music the only white singer i heard a lot in Lesotho and the Transkei when i stayed there for two years in '88 and '89 was (belief it or not) Dolly Parton. In every mini bus there was a Dolly Parton cassette on. The Jo-Burg audience was almost exclusively white and foremost white English (with only an Afrikaner minority). But i think it is a good idea of "ons Suid-Afrikaanse boeti" Blondie to play during the WC, it will open up the rest of the African continent. Also don't know why they never played in North-Africa, there is defenitely a Stones base in countries like Tunisia.

What i really like about this clip is you can just feel the emotions overspilling when they finally for the first time in their lives see their hero Mick Jagger in the flesh appear in front of them, you can almost feel that half the audience is about to faint. Here in europe and the US we complain constantly because really we are just too spoiled
