OT Ry Cooder - Boomer's Story (1972)

I bought the album yesterday and listened to it all night. Untill then I only knew the title song from the numerous times the Black Crowes have played it over the years.

I imediately loved the album, it sounds like a bonus disc to Let It Bleed. It has the right sound (laid back), the right guitars (including mandolin and lots of slide) and some nice songs (the title song, Ax Sweet Mama). When listening to Boomer's Story, you realise how much of an influence Ry was on Keith in the late sixties.

Anyone thoughts on Boomer's Story?

mr edward - if you haven't heard the incredible Ry 1972 album Into The Purple Valley then check that out too. Songs like Vigilante Man have that 69 Stones feel running all through them. It's got that great Performance soundtrack vibe to it.

And, of course, the sublime soundtrack to Paris Texas. And see the film too while you're at it. A classic.

Apparently Ry Cooder was a little, how shall we say, shocked at what he walked into when he was introduced to the Stones circle. I think the quote goes something along the lines of 'his glass eye nealry popped out'! One hell of a geetaw player though.

Friends of mine were amazed by Paris Texas. Listen to this and so on. I just played them his debut (listen to Available Space) and even Performance - and told them: I told you he is great but you didn't care...

Just ran trhough my lp collection and I found out I own that record, just never felt the urge to play it. Bought it years ago (second hand along with some others).

Will give it a spin!

........It might be worth giving Blind Willie Johnson a listen ...

Magnificent slide player and influence on Ry esp his haunting
Dark Was The Night - Cold Was The Ground from 1927 for Paris Texas .....
