Could this be the start of a fad? Beginning at around 53 seconds.

Wow! Really enjoying the incredible awesomeness of the early Brian Jones era Stones. Great clip.

Wow, these fans really trashed the place.

Does anyone know the type of guitar Brian was playing at the very beginning?

How many songs were they able to play at this gig?

I never knew Genesis used to stage dive. Was it Peter Gabriel or Phil Collins? Any photos?

In The Hague back then ('64) you had some gangs one of them was called the "Plu" short of paraplu which means umbrella must be one of them, the other gang was called the Kikkers (the frogs)

Thanks, sssoul forgot about that one.

Some better footage in this one.

Check out the first stage diver at about 3:46.

Don't miss Susan Boyle hugging Keith at about 7:15!!!!

VERY @#$%& cool. Both vids. Thanks for posting.

I love NICO's trivia about the harrowing "Umbrella" and evil "Frog" gangs!

So here's a question:

When you watch this now...who do you immediately relate to more: the stage divers? or the people in suits trying to restore order?

Interesting that you bring that up Nicos. My uncle was part of de "kikkers"
And he was actually was there when het Kurhaus was trashed.

Man, I wish I was 18/19 in that golden era :0(

Sincerely,

The soundtrack is (mostly) "Live in Paris 1965", but the footage isn't - some from Charlie Is My Darling (Ireland) some from the Kurhaus concert again, some from somewhere I don't recognise sponsored by Bravo (German youth magazine). Very enjoyably put together.

- and however many times did that same bloke get thrown off the Kurhaus stage?

That is some funny stuff; I am still laughing. reminds me of some Charlie Chaplin movies, where the hero just won't go down. That guy in the white TShirt was very persistent. But neither side wanted him . hahaha..they were throwing him back, and the bouncers back down. At one point it looks like he himself did not know which way to go anymore, LOL. And then that umbrella..

What's incredible is both scenes happening almost 50 years ago. There is no question that the stage diving was being enjoyed by the crowd. Even if it was sort of led on by the security.

Ironically, on the other hand, some of the tactics used by the cops and security bordered on Hells Angelish in much lesser way. They had their clubs swinging, and kicking and fighting with the crowd in their way of maintaining order. That is just the first thing that came to my mind. But what a scene.

I thought that stagediving started with the punks. I remember kids diving into the audience at The Damned gigs as they were easier to breach security for. The Clash and Pistols were a lot harder for fans to get on stage for once they were famous.

Actually having just read that back I think stagediving in general must have started with Iggy. There's great footage of him from the Detroit Festival 1970 diving into the crowd.

Two things in this one. First Pepsi should use the Stones in a retro commercial as they pass a bottle of Pepsi around at about 1 minute mark. You get a brief glance of the label.

Second what is Keith strumming for about 40 seconds, visually from about 60 seconds to 1:30 seconds. Is it anything or just picking?

There was a thread on this a while ago: apparently it's "Needle of Death" by Bert Jansch:

Have to go back even farther for riots - when Bill Haley went to Germany in '55 or '56, and a bunch of Nazi sympathizers rioted and trashed the stage. I think it happened several times. Haley said they barely got out of there with their lives a couple of times. That's some pretty scary footage.
