I am fortunate to have a copy and a nice collection of all the old vinyl albums as well

My fav album cover? Not sure of my absolute favorite but here are a few faves:

Tattoo You
Let it Bleed
It's only Rock N Roll
Satanic Majesties Request
ABB

I also have JJF, US and German versions...same cover. Obviously the shot the same time as the video, which is also excellent, particularly considering it's 1968.

I think almost all Stones covers have been excellent, with the exception of ABB, Bridges, and Dirty Work...sorry, as much as I actually liked the album, never liked the cover.

There's a funny story about that cover. The guy who painted it also painted the Diamond Dogs cover for Bowie. He painted IOR'n'R first, and Jagger showed it to Bowie, long before the album came out. Bowie liked it so much he hired the same artist to do his cover. Diamond Dogs was released before IOR'n'r was though, which made it look like the Stones were copying Bowie in their choice of cover artist, and Jagger was pissed.

The more I think about it, the imagery on It's Only Rock and Roll really fits the music on Exile on Main St.
