Micks school days

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day about The Stones when he told me that his dad went to the same school as Mick Jagger. He said that Mick was always in trouble for being at the centre of lots of incidents, ie setting of the school fire alarms etc.

I didn't really think that Mick would have been like that but it's only repeating what I have heard, does anyone else know anything about his early days at School?

No stories but this sounds very untrue somehow.

His first words to Keith as a pre- or young school boy
(don't know but I can check) should have been that he
wanted to construct a A-bomb which would "blow up the whole world" or slt.

One of my dads former work coleauge was in the year below Mick Jagger at Dartford Grammar. If you look in Rolling with the Stones, you'll see a school photo. There is a guy in the row above Mick and to his right. He has big ears. That’s him.

A few years back now he gave me a team picture of the schools basketball team (one of only 50 originals). I had it copied.

His father was also good friends with Joe Jagger.

Actually, one of my dads current work colleagues used to be Angela Richards French tutor.

This doesn't sound like Mick to me either but it would be nice to know more about Mick and Keith in their school days, just to see what,if anything, where the seeds of what they became (or have become).

I think it would make a good book, unless there already is a book, anyone know of one?

He had a scrap in the school playground with this guy too. That he told me was his claim to fame.

With his father being a teacher there, I'd of thought Mick was a little rebellious.

On a side note, the pub opposite the school (Odd fellows) was one of Mick’s very earliest drinking haunts.

We can only speculate, of course, but this does not sound very surprising to me at all.
Many of the world's most successful people got into a bit of trouble in their youth, and many did not finish school at all.

Setting off a fire alarm to get out of school for a while? "It ain't no capital crime!"

I thought that Mick was very well behaved, especially since his Dad Joe was the Physical ed teacher and a very strict disciplinarian. Bet this is hog wash!

Since it ought to have happened around 1950 it sounds likely to me.

In polish Stones-Bible called "Satysfakcja" (a very long book, great read!) there is a long chapter about Micks school days, Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys (or how this band was called grinning smiley) and Dartford. It seemed quite true... Eg. Micks first girlfriend, possibly the ugliest girl in town ;->

I will try to find the book and bibliography...

Unfortunately, it's missing. And the author haven't met any of the Stones or Stones family, so I don't think this lot of stories is worth mentioning here. But still, if you know Polish, go and grab a copy winking smiley

One thing is for sure, he was rather shy, quiet but yet dominating kind of guy winking smiley Unlike Keith, who was smoking cigarettes and playing folk in school's toilet ^^

Interesting to have this one bumped again.
So.. Some here believes Mick was well behavin', some not.

My thought: Why in earth would he NOT revolt? Against such a father?

We have saying here that the teacher's kid is always the worst..
hard to translate but thats the meaning of it.

What I meant about with 1950 was that the bomb development
"exploded" by then..

I most certainly do not claim I know Mick or Keith.

Always strong ideas about "this" and "that".
Would be cool to chat with the glimmer twins about this,
but I aint too sure they're to kean to talk about it.

Taken from David Dalton's Unauthorized Biography (same boook as the Mick and Keith picture thread); see pages 121 onwards: At Rock'n'Roll Circus, "the ubiquitous Elsie Smith, Mick's old schoolteacher, [is] entertaining everyone: 'He was such a good little boy, you know, always very quiet and polite, although I don't think he'd like to hear that.'" She has collected Mick's paintings from schooldays and realized it was her Mick when her today's (well, of 1968) girl students/pupils started drawing him in their exercise books.

Yeah... "I was back!"? A joke meaning he hasn't learned anything about grammar from the grammar school? And it looks like he signed Mikey Agger.
