Slobbering over Exile on Main Street

I just bought EOMS and am enjoying it immensely, especially the new songs. It is disgusting, though, that some fans have elevated this album to such a high level that criticism of it is not even slightly tolerated. To criticize EOMS now is tantamount to criticizing Jesus for having hair too long or for not having cured more lepers.

My problem with EOMS is that some of the lyrics are infantile. Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, I Love the Stones, and So Do You is typical of some of the simple minded lyrics. There are few classics or war horses, and I think most casual fans would not even recognize or be able to appreciate most of the songs.

I would gladly delete three of the Exile songs of inferior quality for one quality song like Laugh, I Nearly Died, Star, Star, or She Was Hot.

Some of you need to invest in bibs to catch the slobber as you listen to Exile for the five thousandth time.

You are "enjoying it immensely" except that you would rather hear songs like "Laugh I Nearly Died", delete three of the albums songs, and think people who praise the album should get bibs. OK, sure.

Of all things to criticize EOMS, lyrics seems to me the least appropriate. The lyrics on the album are great. Heartfelt, clever. Jagger was at the top of his game as a lyricist with songs like "Casino Boogie" and "Let It Loose". "Tumbling Dice" has great lyrics. Even "Turd On The Run", probably the least celebrated song on the record has fun lyrics :grabbed hold of your coat tail but it come off in my hand. Reached for your lapel, but it weren't sewn on so grand". OK, not Dylan exactly, but cool.

The more of these anti-Exile posts I see, the more I question the judgment/ears of the people making them. Speaking frankly, some of these posts have not been terribly insightful or articulate, including this one.

.

oh my.

are you talking about the "new" 10 tracks?? Or '72 Exile?

i am one that believes that EOMS is a great album...but have not been "slobbering".
In fact, when others have been wanting to declare Nellcote an historical landmark...I've remained
grounded in reality. winking smiley

Star Star might be the only one that could fit on EOMS......but I wouldn't delete 3 songs to do it.

This reissue of Exile has really brought out some strange comments from some people.........
I get the feeling most are made by the younger 20-30 yr old fans....who don't have a sense of Stones History.
They probably bought REWIND before they bought Hot Rocks.

IORR............but I like it!

The fast-drying, easy-cleaning Exile Slobber Balls
are an ideal soft toy for droolers who enjoy plush toys.

The Exile Slobber Balls feature a gusset for extra thickness
to chew and a double-bellow squeaker. Machine washable for easy cleaning.

You criticize Exile for having "infantile" lyrics and then go on to praise Laugh, I Nearly Died?

Hmmmmm.

I know, pretty funny. I would post more about how ridiculous this is except I am busy being fitted for my Exile slobber bib.

I like "Laugh, I nearly died" better than JWSHF and SBA off Exile, but that may be about as deep as it goes for me.

I think it may be my favorite cause there's so much more material and so many different style's.

**Exile Slobber Bib**

Somewhere Jagger is kicking himself for not thinking of including a bib in one of the various special edition packages.
