What a great Christmas gift season. First we get the Expanded Ya-Ya's NYC shows on CD and DVD and now we're getting the last 4 shows ever played, in their entirety, by the Doors with Jim Morrison in NYC (Felt Forum, Madison Square Garden). A few songs have come out already on "ABSOLUTELY LIVE" and "LIVE IN NEW YORK" (included in the 4 CD Doors Box Set a few years back) but the bulk of the shows are unreleased. This is just pure gold to us DOORS nuts. Here's the set lists, 4 complete shows - January 17th/18th, 1970 - spread out over 6 CD's ($80.00 on Amazon) -

Speaking of John Sebastian, there was a Bruce Botnick note up on the Doors messageboard saying that since Sebastian wasn't plugged into the mobile recording unit his parts were missing. He and Manzarek recreated those parts earlier this year. However it will be possible to download a version without this

That's nothing. Just the other day the surviving members of Bill Haley's Comets recreated some parts that were missing from a live version of See You Later, Alligator.

I have a question for all the Doors "information junkies" out there.... I always wondered if there was ever Pure Studio Versions/Recordings of BUILD ME A WOMAN/SUNDAY TRUCKER, I WILL NEVER BE UNTRUE, WOMAN IS THE DEVIL, and UNIVERSAL MIND and to a lesser degree LOVE HIDES and WHO DO YOU LOVE? I always thought there might be enough Out takes/Demos/etc to put together one more studio album... anyone have any info on this concept??? (of course there's all that studio stuff left over from the SOFT PARADE outtakes/sessions - some made it to the 4 CD Boxset a while back. I feel like there just might enough studio versions (even including an alternative version of WHO SCARED YOU - not sure about that one - who knows? Anything is possible with all the drunken sessions around SOFT PARADE and MORRISON HOTEL/HARD ROCK CAFE.... What's your take on this "Helter Theory"? Thanks

I can´t wait to hear these shows in their full glory. That Jimbo scream at the start of Backdoor Man on Absolutely Live is one of the most insane Rock n´Roll moments ever captured on tape.

HelterSkelter ,l have a question, l know the Doors played the Felt Forum the week after the Stones shows on Nov 27 at the Garden in 69,l attended the Door's show,are these recordings from that show?,if they are, then something is not right with the dates,or maybe they did more shows in January..

I believe it's the 1970 tour, right before MORRISON HOTEL came out... Last NYC shows with the Lizard King front, center, and alive. Remember, there was no tour for LA WOMAN, only Dallas and New Orleans featured about 4 LA WOMAN songs (CHANGLING/LA WOMAN/LOVE HER MADLY/RIDERS ON THE STORM - that's it I believe. No pro/SB tape exists that I know of)

there is an official studio version of WOMAN IS THE DEVIL recorded in 1969 as part of the rock is dead sessions released on the essential rarities cd. also there is a rumored studio version of WHO DO YOU LOVE recorded around the time of the LA WOMAN album.

there has been talks for the past few months that the doors do have some outtakes and studio stuff not yet released that will get released at some point. also they want to reissue the 2 post jim albums OTHER VOICES and FULL CIRCLE. i believe this all will happen as the felt forum boxset was talked about years ago so eventually they get the stuff out

on the rareities cd "woman is a devil" is a studio version but it was basically a rehearsal and was not properly recorded. there are still unreleased takes of songs from the morrison hotel sessions that have not seen the light of day as well as some of jim's 1969 & 1970 poetry sessiomns. but for the most part the does have basically cleaned out the vaults when it comes to studio recordings but as long as there are jim morrison vocals on multitrack tape the doors can always whip up something . don't get me wrong i love the doors but can't help feeling at times that the surviving members have turned jim morrison into a cash cow.

there's an audience recording of the 1969 ny shows and the 1970 ones as well but i belive the 1969 shows were done in january of that yr .before the miami incident and months before the stones toured the states.

I'm an LA Dude but used to go to NYC a lot in the 80's. I went to a few shows at MSG but never went to the Felt Forum which was, as you said, another performance space inside the larger MSG Arena (as seen in Gimme Shelter with the Stones performing).I did a Yahoo search and here's more info on the Felt Forum And More (hope it helps) -

moderately excited. Can someone with pure words convince me why I must
get this stuff? Is there anything new in it*?
And what is wrong with the full cd from NYC on the Box Set from 1997?
(except the leather pants idea which might get me credit card run)

Serious question - does the world need anymore lives Doors stuff? There's shed loads of the stuff.

they should of divided the shows into seperate collections. people dont have the money to dish out for expensive sets like this.
