OT: Can someone explain what the hell is Slash doing here?

Sorry, I know most people hate this polls,
but Time Magazine is supposed to be a credible source.

Never mind Slash, what about Yngwie! Seriously though, these polls are meaningless without a set of criteria on which to base the selection. Otherwise it's just a popularity contest based on personal preference...

Time hasn't been credible in several years.

I like Slash; he's a fine rock'n roller. I don't know about this obsession that the magazines have with Top 10 lists, and points and winners etc, but Slash is a good guitarrist in my book. I thought him and Izzy was one of those great rock band guitar couples

In the big world of great guitar players I find Slash completely pretentious and meaningless.

Another meaningless list sure, but as long as Jimi is on top, and Keith is ahead of Page, it goes down good with me.

"Credible News-source" is almost an oxymoron these days.

Before you give anything like this too much respect...just remember these organizations are
nothing more than a bunch of 25-55 year olds...like you and me & your neighbor....no more expertise (& no less).
the 20 yr olds that loved GnR in 1990 are now nearly 40 and working in newsrooms.
They probably (simply) surveyed the newsroom...

Apparently Eddie Van Halen doesn't have any fans at TIME.

IORR............but I like it!

A slash is a forbidden gesture in (American) college football and the NFL.

A...yngmie is a used douche bag.

So let´s hope they all do their scale exercises everyday with volume up to 10.
Maybe someday some real musicality comes from the heavens and touch their souls.
But that´s if the ventilators on stage blowing their shampoo-wonders don´t blow this inspiration away aside.

Talk about Spinal Tap, then.

Just as long as Jimmy Page is featured in a poll like this I'm perfectly happy.

slash is not one of those scale shredders. he has ALOT of feeling for phrasing and melodies and he plays with attitude. and he has TONE! just check out the lead works on appetite - AMAZING!

I really like Slash, for instance, what I just can´t say for ALL of those scale speedsters with their hair and spandex. For the younger guys who don´t just understand what I am saying all I can say is keep hearing the Stones (just for example) and in a matter of 5 or 6 years you´ll know what I am talking about (smiling smiley).

And I am not talking about Keith,Taylor, Ronnie or even Brian.m I am talking about your perception of music. By hearing the Stones you´ll soon look for Motown, Blues, Soul, Reggae, 70´s singer-songwriters, good country music, Folk, Latin Music, some jazz, etc., you know the lot.

Now Slash, a Gibson guy. He´s been obviously hearing Pagey so much all his life. Northing wrong, he plays it good.
But talk about the environment in which he appeared. You know.USA money moguls trying to recreate Led Zeppelin with all their heart and de$ire. You know, blond 'sex-symbol' vocalist with guitar 'hero'.First with van halen ( and if nobody has ever said this, please note that eddie van halen was the epitome of the scale foolers) and then gunz and rozez. Hard to know that, among those 9 guys I´ve mentioned, Slash was the only real good musician.

First time i ever saw Les Paul on a top ten pole. The man passes away and finally makes the top 10. Too bad he had to die to make it.
Johnny Ramone? Slash? Prince? I could go yo any local club ths past weekend and watch guys that are better than them. And as far as Ingvie is concerned. Not my cup of tea.

Slash is a phenomenal talent and definitely one of the all time greats, IMO.

Hearing his solo on Sweet Child ‘O Mine is one of my defining moments in life: I was hooked and have not looked back. Rock on!

When I say I like Slash, please note:

1- He obviously have to get away from his Pagey syndrome to really add something different.
2- I try to be comprehensive to younger music fans who haven´t been able to hear "All of that jazz" (and rock and blues, for that matter, smiling smiley) what older guys did.
I reckon that a slice of that younger pizza will one day discover that Gibson wasn´t invented the other day. Wanna hear speed with musicality, for insatnce? try Jeff or Mahavishnu.
3- Slash would be somewhere along 120th in my list.
