Bigger Bang (A Better Version)
Posted by: rootsman ()
Date: August 20, 2009 15:33

This is how I like to have the best tracks from Bigger Bang re-sequenced and in LP length (about 40 minutes, that is).
It makes for great listening, and a much better album!

Driving Too Fast
It Won´t Take Long
Back Of My Hand
Rain Fall Down
Biggest Mistake
Oh No Not You Again
Laugh I Nearly Died
This Place Is Empty
Let Me Down Slow
Don´t Wanna Go Home (Just Wanna Get Stoned...)

Well, IMO an uneven album gets better when the weaker tracks don´t spoil it!

When I see an album that's longer than 12 tracks, I get negative and I'm usually right.

Yes, I think the other 10 tracks are better.
How would you sequence yours?

Basically I agree with your sequence, would drop out "Oh No..." ,add RJ and UTR instead.

Rough Justice and Under The Radar could be on the 12-track edition!

Re: Bigger Bang (A Better Version)

This would have been a better album, imo:

Rough Justice
Let Me Down Slow
Driving Too Fast
Back Of My Hand
This Place Is Empty
She Saw Me Coming
Laugh I Nearly Died
Look What The Cat Dragged In
Oh No Not You Again

sometimes less really is more. i like rootsman's tracklist...especially starting w/Driving Too Fast.

it's all about editing. you can't just throw everything at the wall and see what sticks.

not saying i don't want all the Stones I can get...the "leftovers" can be released in another form.

by definition, an album is a collection with a common thread (other than all being recorded by the Stones).

IORR............but I like it!

Not me...

But in the CD era albums tend to be overlong with too many tracks that´s not really good enough!

I really first noticed this with The Red Hot Chili Peppers 'Blood Sugar Sex Magic'.

For me personally the number of tracks doesn't matter if they are quality songs. For me, these are the best tracks that came out with the 2005 sessions

Rough Justice
Let Me Down Slow
It Won't Take Long
Look What the Cat Dragged In
Rain Fall Down
This Place is Empty
Under The Radar
Back Of My Hand
Dangerous Beauty
Laugh, I Nearly Died
Driving Too Fast
Oh No Not You Again
The Hurricane

the shortened version in my itunes library was 10 tunes at 41:00, and for some reason i added SOL to it. Not sure if I'm finally warming to it, thought the playlist needed another song, or am just turning soft.

Under The Radar
Rough Justice
Look What the Cat Dragged In
Back Of My Hand
Laugh, I Nearly Died
Rain Fall Down- ashley B remix
Oh No Not You Again
Streets Of Love
Let Me Down Slow
Driving too Fast
This Place is Empty

So many of the ABB songs feel like they need a finishing touch, an extra riff/lead/break, better crafted intros/endings. really was a great batch of tunes, it feels like a lost opportunity. I hope they treat the next batch a little better. the neglect of Under the Radar, both left off ABB and not done live, is almost criminal!!

Totally agreed!

Essential songs from the album are:

Rough Justice (would be much better without the digital sizzling from overly loud mastering)
Let Me Down Slow (great guitars!)
It Won't Be Long (listen to the Wallflowers' "See You When I Get There" in comparison)
Back Of My Hand
She Saw Me Coming (could have used more Ronnie)
Biggest Mistake (long version)
laughinearlydied
Driving Too Fast (could have used a 3rd verse)
Infamy
Under the Radar (sorely missed on the album)
We Don't Wanna Go Home (long version) (which should have been the album's closing tune)

I could go without:
Rain Fall Down (I'm not the funk type)
Streets Of Love (the album version sounds too much like just a demo)
This Place Is Empty (it's just Keith's Licks song revisited)
Oh No Not You Again
Dangerous Beauty
Look What the Cat Dragged In (those 3 sound so much the same)
Sweet Neo Con (funk again)

I have yet to listen to "The Hurricane". Maybe they can polish up the demo into a full song for the next album?

What's wrong with "Streets of Love"? I think it's a brilliant ballad.

Indeed. Their best ballad in years.

For me it's a simple edit: eliminate the last four tracks, leave everything else as is, and you've got the Best Since Tattoo You.

After reading all these posts with different suggestions of songs to be skipped from ABB I realize that it was the right

decision to release an album with 16 tracks, although it resulted in a couple of fillers. Keep in mind that we

had to wait EIGHT long years for the latest studio CD from the Stones and that's one of the

reasons that I didn't mind an album with more than 10 songs.

Best songs on ABB IMHO - Driving Too Fast, This Place Is Empty and She Saw Me Coming

Fillers - Infamy, Biggest Mistake and Dangerous Beauty.

"What's wrong with "Streets of Love"?" You and glencar think it's brilliant?

Hootie?

SOL is total shite, the worst thing they've done since Rock And A Hard Place. Then of course you have Rain Falls Down, which is just as bad. If they had any sense at all they would have only had Laugh, I Nearly Died on the album instead.

she saw me coming is the only song on ABB worthy of the stones' signature...

not at all...It's like they never bothered to replace the 'guide' vocal for that one. it sounds like mick never finished the lyrics and doesn't do that great of a job improvising over the blank spots. One of many "could've been great but we didn't bother to finish it" songs from ABB.

Radar, Back of my hand, Rain fall down, Laugh, etc. sure seem worthy of the stones' moniker to my ears, but i realize it's each to their own taste.

for me that's PRECISELY why it works - sounds like Mick from the old daze, when he swig from a bottle of jack...grab a mike and just do what came natch....for the past several decades he's been over-enunciating and whatnot and botching most of the songs as a result...SSMC demonstrates mick sounding like the mick that i knew in the glory years....

RJ will be on the sequal, called the

"Biggest Bang of them all"!

An album made from the wishes of Stones fans, whom they now a days
have to rely on, more than their own ability to choose songs for their albums.

God bless Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ron.
Not to forget MT, BW, IS and the late Brian Jones!

Been Stoned since 1964 and still am!
