Otis Redding and Keith Richards Odd Similarity

Ok, someone tell me if Keith was just paying homage to Redding or ripping him off.

Listen to the first 17 seconds of Let's Go Steady (the studio outtake from 1979) by the Stones.

Then listen to the first 9 seconds of That's What My Heart Needs by Otis Redding.

They both sing, "You left me for another." They both almost sing it in the exact same way too. They at least sing the word "another" the same. I heard the Otis song for the first time the other day and when it came on, I thought to myself, "How come Redding is singing Let's Go Steady?"
I'm guessing just a homage.

Let´s Go Steady is a cover song. Originally written by Neil Sedaka (!) and H. Greenfield. So, I guess Neil was listening to Otis round the time he wrote that tune winking smiley

Wow, how did I not know that. I actually have the song on my computer with Sam Cooke singing. Guess I never made the connection.

Little Richard & Sam Cooke would be Otis Reddings main inspirations......Just checkout his first album...

You talking about Pain In My Heart? That's the album I was listening to when I heard That's What My Heart Needs. My CD version skips the song, so I'd never heard it until I played the vinyl. I'm a big Sam Cooke and Little Richards fan, I'd just never listened to Let's Go Steady Again by Cooke.

It's not a Sedaka song, although Sedaka does have a song called Let's Go Steady.
The Sam Cooke song we're talking about was written by, I believe, someone named Alexander. I wonder if it's the R&B Arthur Alexander (Anna, Better Move On).

Sorry. Written by Arthur Conley. It was the B-side to Cookes Sweet Soul Music.

You can find it on YouTube.
And according to the Atco sleeve, it was produced by Redding
and written by someone named Alexander (Arthur Alexander maybe?).

Let's Go Steady Again was penned by J.W.Alexander ( James Woody)...

The J.W story is extensive but basically started out with Silver Moon Quartet ... moved onto working with and look after gospel greats The Pilgrim Travelers who began recording for Specialty Records .... Then connected with The Soul Stirrers and Sam Cooke..

J.W worked closely with Cooke and his SAR Record label as writer ...session musician and producer.....

J.W also provides percussion on Rolling Stones I'm Free RCA LA 1965 sessions

Otis wrote "Satisfaction". Please note young Mick Jagger at .47 of this song thinking about stealing the song from Otis.

Just kidding!spinning smiley sticking its tongue out
